Make Something Monday: A Felt Carrot & Mike's Handiwork
This past week has been so busy since we just got back in town. I have been trying to catch up with work and my blogs. We are also hosting Thanksgiving at our home this year so I have been trying to prepare for that.
Two days before I went out of town though, I did make this lonely carrot. See, we bought Lucas a kitchen for Christmas so I am going to make him a bunch of felt food.

Anyhow, I couldn't just show you guys that poor excuse for a carrot so in the spirit of Thanksgiving I thought I would publicly thank my husband for all of the great things he has built or helped me make over the years! Yes, my husband is crafty too! He loves to build things and he is really good at it. He is also a great sport and helps me when I get the urge to make something that is too big of a project for only me to tackle.
I love old furniture. If it is made of real wood, I want it! I love to paint, refinish, or distress wood. Mike always helps me when I take on one of these projects. Most of our furniture comes from garage sales so needless to say, we have done this often. He has also been sweet enough to do this for our friends and family as well. Here are a few pieces of furniture we have painted together.

Below, is our bathroom. Our house was built in the 1970's and was never updated. When we moved in a little over a year ago, the whole house needed to be renovated. The bathrooms were terrible. Mike restained the cabinets, changed out all of the faucets, hardware, light fixtures, toilet handles, and put molding around all of the mirrors to give them a more finished look. He did this to ALL of our bathrooms! The vanity you see in the picture is actually a garage sale find. I painted that myself, but it is in the bathroom so I thought I would show it to you.

This is Lucas' room. Mike and I both painted all of the nursery furniture. It used to be my 8 year old niece's nursery furniture and it was very girly and stark white. I wanted to make it more boyish so we painted it a warmer color and distressed it. I did the crib, but by the time we got around to the other furniture, I was already 7 months pregnant so Mike did the rest.

Now, for some of the things he has built! If you look closely at the fireplace, you will see that it has a brick surround (yes, I know that glass door has GOT to go!). It also has a brick hearth underneath the awesome cover Mike made. It is made of wood and the top and side has foam that has been covered with burlap. This is one of my favorite things he has built. I did not want to get the ugly bumpers or even worse, one of those really expensive fireplace gates. It is removable and has worked out great! Lucas is safe and our house still looks good! He also built a gate for our deck so the little monster can't get out and a charging station for our cell phones.

This is Mike's FAVORITE thing he has built. If you knew Mike, you would know that he is all about organization! When we renovated our home, we gutted our master closet. Mike built the closet system from scratch. It is so well-built and sturdy.

Ok, I know this post has gotten way out of control long! I just have one more thing to say. Thanks babe for always being such a good sport and going along with all of my wacky projects!

Piera! Your house looks like it is straight from a magazine! You all have done a fabulous job! Mike is such a pro as well! I LOVE the closet! That's similar to what Matthew wants to do to ours. Maybe Mike could give some pointers! I always thought your sink was beautiful in some of the pictures I have seen...now I know where you got it! I am seriously impressed with all of this!
Also, you have been very generous to share it all at one time which also impresses me! I usually save some for days when I don't have anything else LOL! You know me!

Your husband is super talented...and you too!! That carrot and the furniture! =) I have never tried to distress an old dresser before...and we have a ton of hand me down, solid wood peices that I want to do...but AFTER the move, everything is on hold until AFTER the move.. I should share before and after photos when I get around to doing it. One of the peices I want to turn into a new (old) hutch..can't wait! And looking at your post makes me want to do it all the more!
