Skin MD Natural Review and Giveaway

Thursday, January 01, 2009 Posted by Jolly Mom

I have battled dry skin my entire life so I am always searching for lotion that works. When I was approached by Skin MD to try out their new shielding lotion called, Skin MD Natural, I jumped at the chance.

What really intrigued me is that it is a shielding lotion. Honestly, I didn't know what that meant, but after some research I found out that a shielding lotion actually enhances the skin's own protective abilities by forming a shield. It helps keep the natural oils and moisture IN your skin while defending your skin from chemicals and other irritants.

After trying it, my first impression was that it is very light and non-greasy. It is quickly absorbed into the skin and I could instantly feel my skin become softer. I have to say that I LOVE that it is a light lotion. The thing is that most lotion geared for people with dry skin is usually very thick and greasy, which means you usually have to wait a long time for it to be absorbed before you can get dressed. That's not the case with Skin MD. It leaves your skin feeling soft and moisturized without the greasy feeling. I also love that it has SPF 15 built into it so that I don't have to worry about sunscreen. Skin MD natural is a multipurpose lotion that works! Definitely gets a thumbs up from me.

Skin MD has generously offered one Jolly Mom reader a bottle of this awesome lotion for herself!

I learned this: An accumulated effect of Skin MD Natural is fully realized after only a few days of daily use. Depending on how dry your skin is the first few days may require reapplications after only a few hours. Usually, after a few days of continuous use, only one or two daily applications are necessary to see the improvement.

I can live with that. I just want soft skin!!!

I learned that "the proprietary formulation in Skin MD Natural has a moisturizing factor of at least 6 times greater than glycerin. Combined with its protective properties and natural ingredients, this makes Skin MD Natural a truly unique product." 6 times greater...that is incredible. I tried one of their other products last year and in the beginning it worked great, but then didn't do much. now reading your info, I can see I didn't use it enough according to my own personal dry skin needs. a few friends said the same. I will encourage them to give skin md a new try, and use it more in the beginning until it has time to do its work. Thanks for this product review!!!!

"We use a combination of steroids to handle the inflammation and a moisturizing cream to deal with the excessive dryness," explains Dr. Peter Helton, a board-certified dermatologist from Newport Beach California. "A shielding lotion like Skin MD combines the medication with a sealant that keeps irritants out and helps the skin heal. So we get faster results and the patient has to use less medication. Hands down, a shielding lotion works better than any conventional cream."

Since so many factors affect why a person develops eczema, a treatment plan that helps heal the lesions in just a few days is a real breakthrough.

    wow, awsome info.

I learned that Skin MD is a shielding lotion and that shielding lotions are far more effective as a dry skin treatment than conventional moisturizing lotions or protective creams. If you suffer from dry skin, you know that just using a moisturizing lotion doesn't solve the problem. A shielding lotion does much more than just treat dry skin – it’s a new kind of skin care product that makes a real difference to all skin types.

I learned that an under-active thyroid (hypothyroid) slows the metabolic function and results in the skin being cold, dry and pale. The dryness can be so extreme that there is no sweating at all and the palms and soles get thick and dry (keratoderma). Hypothyroid dry skin is prone to develop dermatitis (eczema craquelé - a crazy paving splitting of the surface layer). I have Thyroid Disease and my hands currently are cracking, splitting, and bleeding. I want to try this even if I don't win.

The main ingredient, Octyl methoxycinnamate (INCI), or octinoxate (USAN), is an organic compound that is an ingredient in some sunscreens and lip balms. It is an ester formed from methoxycinnamic acid and 2-ethylhexanol. It is a clear liquid that is insoluble in water. In studies, this ingredient was shown to have a low acute toxicity, is non-irritating and non-sensitizing.

Ok I learned that Skin MD is a shielding lotion and that shielding lotions are far more effective as a dry skin treatment than conventional moisturizing lotions or protective creams which is great as someone who has horribly dry hands because I wash them frequently this is going to work perfectly.

This natural skin care product adds space age skin softening humectants, with a skin protectant that is like an invisible shield. The secret is that it does not allow the body's moisture to leave and it does not allow chemicals to enter. I thought this was interesting.

I found out that the proprietary formulation in Skin MD Natural has a moisturizing factor of at least 6 times greater than glycerin. Which makes this product unique in the industry.

Skin MD Natural also contains aloe vera, amica, comfrey and chamomile. All amazing natural products that soothe and comfort the body.

I learned that Skin MD has a money-back guarantee, and they will send you a free sample if you mail them a SASE.

My husband has sensitive skin and allergies. We both have dry skin, but it's tough finding a lotion that he can use or one that I can use around him (because of the perfumes). We'd both love to try Skin MD.
