Do you know what to do?
A few weeks ago while shooting a video review, Lucas choked on some crackers. He was strapped into his highchair and he was turning blue. In that moment, my heart stopped and I panicked. Everything I thought I knew about CPR, flew out the window. Admittedly, I haven't taken a CPR class in over 10 years. Before Lucas was born, I read a lot of information about it and I thought I was prepared. As I was watching my baby turn blue, I knew that I was far from prepared. Thankfully, I was able to push past my fear and dislodge the crackers in his throat, but it was a wake up call. I need to be really, really prepared-over prepared. So, I plan on signing up for some First Aid and CPR classes very soon. In the mean time, I have watched video after video demonstrations of what to do. They are so helpful since you can actually see what you need to do.
Here are some excellent videos that I found on http://www.learncpr.org.

Here is a CPR Pocket Guide that would be handy to keep in several areas of the house and car.

I am so glad your son is ok! Thanks so much for sharing this. I have small children and am forever worrying about one of them getting choked. I still won't let my 21 YEAR old walk while she has hard candy in her mouth LOL
Take Care

(((HUGS))) I'm glad he's ok. The same thing happened to my son with animal crackers. The kind in the big plastic bear. It's such a scary thing as a mom. I still supervise my kids when they eat and my oldest is 7.

Oh how scary! Choking is a big fear of mine. I have taken CRP a couple of times but I always wonder if I would freeze up when I really needed it. I'm so glad you were able to react and he is ok!

Great post and an important one. All my children were preemies and one part of them being released fro the NICU was the mandatory (hospital paid and taught) infant and child CPR classes.

Thank you so much for the info--one of my new year's resolutions is to learn CPR and the heimlich. Right now I wouldn't trust myself to save my baby's life. I'm so glad your little boy is all right.

What a great post! My 4 yr old has a tendency to swallow his food before he chews it up all the way and it always gags him a little. Fortunately, no choking. I need to watch that video just in case.

That is scary I know. Connor my oldest would hold his breathe when he was just a few weeks old and practically scared the living day lights out of me. The last time he ever did that was when I was at my parents house and mom practically wiggled him and tapped him on his chest to get him to breathe. He literally made himself turn blue. I just broke down crying right then and there. You gotta watch them kiddies closely when they are little.

That is so scary! I'm so glad everything turned out ok! You're absolutely right; we should all know the skills necessary to deal with such an emergency.

Thank you for this. I want to do a CPR class so bad because I know while I can read and watch the videos, hands on is always better.
I'm soooo glad your son is alright. Very scary.

Always good to have this info. it should be second nature, a no think sort of thing. I do have to say it is harder when it is someone you love because emotions get in the way! So, bravo for you- you did it, and you will be better prepared because of it!

I'm so glad to hear Lucas is ok. I know this is the scariest thing to happen. This has happened to me twice, thank you mom for the child CPR classes. A few years back I was at a friend house and her son choked on a french fry, she had the frozen reaction. Thankfully I was able to pull him out of the car and clear his throat. Then just 6 mo ago Caden chocked on a fruit snack, I've never been so freaked being my own son.
Oh girlie, my thoughts are with your nerves. Thanks for the updated I always like to be up to date on these things.
