You pretty much can't go anywhere or watch anything without hearing the word "Green" lately. It is with great reason that this color is receiving such recognition lately! We all know that our Earth is fragile and continues to deteriorate. Felicia and I started to become more concerned about this issue when our sons were born. We want our children to have the same opportunities that we had growing up!So, the THIRD "Mom Time in '09" question is being posed: "What are some simple things you do to live green?"
Sometimes when you think about "living green" it can be confusing and possibly overwhelming. We want to hear from you and gain your wisdom and tips to share amongst us all! Each question that you blog about with an answer AND link to Go Graham Go AND Jolly Mom will earn you 5 extra entries any way you want to use them (5 on one giveaway or 1 on five separate giveaways). Remember, you must BLOG your responses to these questions. It doesn't count if you leave your tips in the comments. Because there will be four, you have the opportunity to earn up to 20 extra entries! Just enter: "Live Green" in your comments!
My Tips for Living Green

1. I make my own household cleaners. It's really easy, inexpensive, and there aren't any toxic chemicals polluting the earth or our bodies.
2. HE Appliances
3. Reuse jars and containers for things around the house.
4. Recycle!
5. Cancelled junk mail!
6. We try to support our local farmers and eat organic. This can get expensive so it's not always possible.
7. We try to purchase green toys for Lucas whenever the option exists.
8. Watch our water consumption (i.e. don't run the water while brushing teeth, doing dishes, etc.)
9. Energy efficient light bulbs.
10. Turn off the lights when not using them!

I blogged my christmas card this year, in an attempt to be green. I also have been challenged to use more of the waste in my home business ( close to my heart scrapbook and stamping supplies www.clerissalewis.myctmh.com )
I try to not throw any part away, from the order receipt to the box the stuff comes in ( not recommended for scrapbooking purposes since not sure if everything is acid free but for cardmaking it is great :) )

We use reusable fabric bags for shopping, HE appliances, homemade cleaning solutions, recycle plastics and paper products, use cold water cycle for laundry on all loads, try to do military style showers (3 minutes), have the windows open to cool off instead of fans or air conditioner, reuse plastic containers, print on both sides of computer printouts. Actually when I sit down and think about it, we do alot of "green" stuff around the house...more than I thought...thanks for posing this question:)

This is a simple tip: Get Carded! That is get your library card and put it to use! Take the family to the library for books, c.d.s, and even DVDs! This saves you money that you would spend on the latest bestseller or movie, gets the kids active, and supports your local library! Go Green at the Library!
