Kid's Music Parents Will Enjoy Too! Milkshake's Screen Play DVD Review
Music is such an integral part of everyone's life. It has the ability to heal, to lift you up, to make you move, and so much more. In turn, music is just as important for babies, toddlers, and older children as much as it is for you. Parents should begin introducing a child to music from the time they are in the womb. As newborns, babies benefit from the soothing sound of a lullaby or classical music. As they grow, toddlers benefit more from songs that promote social interaction, movement, and language development. The hard part is finding music that children will love and won't make a parent want to pull their hair out-LOL!Recently, I discovered a children's rock group called Milkshake that both children and parents can enjoy together! I was sent their newly released DVD, Screen Play and their third CD called Play.
About Milkshake:
Milkshake is a band on a mission: to create great rock music for kids. Led by singer Lisa Mathews and guitarist Mikel Gehl, whose songs for grown-ups have been featured in movies and prime-time television, and whose indie rock group Love Riot garnered critical praise during its 10-year run, Milkshake has won over preschoolers without compromising songcraft, stagecraft or their authentic rock&roll spirit.
The CD, Play was officially released in 2007 and is filled with fun, upbeat songs about baseball, bowling, pretending, playing music, parades, and so much more. It even has a cameo by Cal Ripken Jr.! It also has three bonus tracks created for Discovery's ToddWorld. Screen Play is a fun DVD where you get to see Milkshake live during their concert performances mixed in with animated videos. There's also a great backstage segment and two bonus videos created for PBS Kids.
I am definitely impressed with Milkshake. The music is a lot of fun and very upbeat. As a parent, you will enjoy it too, which is honestly a must since your child will want to play it non-stop! The DVD will make your child (and you) want to get up and dance and the catchy songs are great for language development. Both the CD and DVD offer parents and children a fun opportunity to interact with one another as everyone watches, sings along, and dances to the music.See Milkshake in Action!

From the release of their first CD Happy Songs (inspired by the birth of Lisa’s daughter and Mikel’s son), it was clear that Milkshake was an exciting departure from traditional kids’ music.

According to their site: "With tuneful, memorable songs that evoke influences from Rodgers and Hammerstein to Lennon-McCartney to The White Stripes, Milkshake continues to create music that appeals to both kids and their parents, even after listening to the same CD five times in a row."
