Innovative & Functional Feeding Products: Boon Review
Meal time at my house can be a real adventure. Lucas goes through all sorts of stages: throwing food, not eating, refusing to eat without utensils, etc. I know I've mentioned in other posts about him only eating if you give him a spoon or a fork. Well, that doesn't exactly work so well because he maybe gets 25% of the food in his mouth. Most goes all over him, the chair, the floor...you get the picture.Well, I recently had the opportunity to try out two of Boon, Inc.'s feeding products that have helped reign in the meal time chaos quite a bit. One of the products I received to review is a set of utensils called Benders.
Benders are adaptable baby and toddler utensils. Basically, they bend whichever way you want them to so that you can customize them according to your child's grip. As your child's motor skills develop, you adjust accordingly until eventually they are straight like a normal utensil. The package comes with a spoon and a spork. Like all of Boon's products, they are modern and beautiful. Most of all, what seems like a simple concept that may not make that big of a difference during meal time is actually the opposite. I was pleasantly surprised after using them and quite impressed with how easily Lucas was able to feed himself. Usually Lucas misses his mouth, but with the Benders he actually got food in his mouth more often than not! Just take a look at the video and you'll see what I mean.
The second product I received to review is the Saucer. The Saucer is an innvoative edgeless plate with divided sections to keep food separated. It also has a slip-resistant base that grips to your tabletop to prevents spills. After using it, I am really impressed with the design and love the divided sections. I will have to warn that this is slip-resistant not toddler proof-lol. I mean it will not totally prevent your child from picking it up and launching it across the room. However, the edgeless design definitely helps to discourage Lucas from picking it up since it is harder for him to get a grip on the plate. He hasn't thrown the plate yet so that is a plus!See It In Action:
Both of the products are dishwasher safe, BPA-free, Phthalate-free, and PVC-free. Makes me very happy to see that they are safe-no nasty chemicals so I don't have to worry about that! They are also very affordable-both cost $5.99!

These utensils sound great - my daughter is too old, but they would make great gifts.
