smart-e-bear: Smarter than Your Average Teddy Bear Review and Giveaway
I am always on the hunt for toys that are both fun and educational. You know the ones that sneak in good information while your child is giggling with delight? To me, those are the only types of toys that really teach. If your child isn't having fun; they will quickly lose interest and move on to the next toy. When I came across the smart-e-bear and friends, I was immediately intrigued.About the smart-e-bear (from the website):
The smart-e-bear is is a huggable, loveable friend that plays award-winning kids music, fun games, and interactive stories right out of the box. Download thousands more educational and fun songs and stories from their online store. And personalize him to call your child by name or even speak Spanish, French, or Chinese. Personalizing smart-e-bear is as easy as Connect, Click, Cuddle with their parent-friendly smart-e-software and an easy to use online store with 8,000+ songs, 100+ stories, and 30+ educational and fun games and interactive adventures that put your child in the center of the action! Also available is the smart-e-cat and the smart-e-dog.
I received the smart-e-bear to review and this is definitely one cool toy. First, the teddy bear is so soft and cuddly. Many of these types of toys lack in the huggable area, but not the smart-e-bear. It comes ready to play right out of the box, which is always a plus. This is a highly interactive toy, which plays games like Simon Says and asks your child for feedback during stories. It's a great way for children to learn about cause and effect and gives children the control. You tell the bear what to do by simply pressing his paws. If you have a younger child, some of the games may be too dificult so the bear can also be used in shuffle mode, which cycles through all of the songs, stories, and games.
Of course, the cool part of this toy is the endless personalization options. I immediately had to hook it up to my computer with the included USB cable and try out the software. There are literally THOUSANDS of songs, stories, and games that you can download to your bear from the online store for as little as $0.99. You can edit the bear's playlist however you want so that your child never gets bored. The bear does come preloaded with a variety of songs, stories, and games so you won't have to spend anything for a while. However, you can program the bear to say your child's name (if the name is in their large database), which I immediately did and there is no charge for that. Now, everytime we turn the bear on; he says "Hi, Lucas!" So cute and Lucas gets a kick out of it! One thing I want to point out is the songs. These are award-winning artists singing the songs! You know how musical toys always have at best mediocre songs? Not so with the smart-e-bear! The songs are really awesome!I also discovered that you can program the bear to sing Happy Birthday to your child on their special day. Oh, and for parents the bear has volume control and a headphone jack. Gotta love that! The smart-e-bear and friends are really just awesome toys. I think that they would make excellent companions for road trips or traveling as well. Most toys lose their appeal very quickly, but the smart-e-bear is a toy that can be continually updated and offer something new. It is a toy that will last and grow with your child, which is more than can be said about most toys.

What a wonderful bear - and a clever bear as well :-) Great giveaway.
I'd put music ... Charity and the JamBand into the bear. (Confession: I cant sing !) Stories I would use only occassionally because I like to snuggle up with the kids and do the reading to them myself. Thats our quality time together.
