Environmentally Friendly and Effective Way to Kill Germs & Bacteria: Pocket Purifier Review & Giveaway!

Saturday, April 25, 2009 Posted by Jolly Mom

Maybe it's new mom paranoia or maybe it's just simply a mom thing, but I have become a germaphobe! I am pretty sure that I was never like that before Lucas, but now all of a sudden I have become a total germaphobe! It just grosses me out to think about all the nasty germs and bacteria living on shopping carts, playgrounds, restaurant highchairs, and...everywhere-lol. However, I do not like to use traditional hand or surface sanitizers on objects that could possibly end up in Lucas' mouth either. They are made with alcohol and chemicals that frankly scare me more than germs in some cases! Recently, Purely Products contacted me about reviewing their Pocket Purifier, which kills germs and bacteria with UV light!

Purely Products sent me a Pocket Purifier for me to review and it is one cool gadget! Basically, you turn it on and shine the built-in UV-C bulb on the surface or object that you want to purify. The UV-C bulb attacks the germs and bacteria killing their DNA and prevents them from reproducing and growing. It also has a specially designed UV-Lid that prevents any harm of ultraviolet light to the eyes and skin and also enhances the germ-killing function of the Pocket Purifier. The device is small enough to fit into a purse or diaper bag and...it's even available in pink! This is a perfect product for moms-use it on public high chairs, toilet seats, toothbrushes, doorknobs, shopping carts, playgrounds...anywhere that you want to disinfect. It would also be great to use in the kitchen or at work for keyboards and telephones!

The Pocket Purifier is very quick and easy to use. You hold it 1/2" to 1” away from the surface of the item you are purifying for 10 to 15 seconds. This will work for 1” x 4” area. This is what I think is really cool though-you can disinfect several objects at the SAME TIME. You just place the Pocket Purifier in a small enclosed area (12” to 24”) with the objects to be purified and leave for 10 to 15 minutes. The Pocket Purifier has a flip stand on the side of the unit that you can use to get it positioned properly. I think this is great if you have several of your child's toys or other items that need to be disinfected. You can do it all at once without using traditional cleaners or sanitizers that have chemicals.

So, I bet you're wondering the same thing that I was. How effective is it? Well, it seems that UV-C light has been tested for the past 60 years by governmental and private agencies and companies and the conclusion remains that there is simply nothing more effective for killing germs and bacteria, purifying the air we breath and the water we drink! UV-C light is so good at disinfecting that hospitals use the same UV technology to sterilize their surgical instruments. If it's good enough for hospitals, then it is definitely good enough for me!

How It Works:

Want It: The Pocket Purifier is available in black or pink and retails for $29.95 OR you can get a 2-pack for $49.95!

This contest is closed. Congratulations to the winner, Storm-the Psychotic Housewife! Winner has been emailed and has 48 hours to contact me.

Holy cow, this is some neat stuff. I'm a big time germaphobe; always washing my hands, cleaning surfaces off before I use them and after someone else has come along and laid their hands on them so this little device would be a part of me. But what really got my attention on that site was that they have these UV water purifiers. I live out in the Everglades in FL and while the water is potable, it comes out yellow, smells bad and I'm too scared to drink it. If I had one of those installed under my sink, maybe I could actually drink the water out of my tap again! COOL!

I really, really want to try the PurelyAnion light bulbs (with the Ionic Generator built in) for all the free standing light fixtures. Wow, love products that multi-task, especially eco-friendly ones, these sound like a must have for our home!

Thank you for the opportunity to enter.

Since sunlight and me aren't necessarily the best of friends some days and I'm worried about the little one having problems too, I'd love to try the SunMate!
