Teach Kids How to Garden & About Going Green: Green Toys Indoor Gardening Kit Review

Friday, April 24, 2009 Posted by Jolly Mom

Just a few weeks ago, I wrote a rave review for the Cookware and Dining Set by Green Toys. I have truly fallen in love with Green Toys. Their toys are durable, environmentally friendly, made in the USA, and they are just plain cool! Recently, Green Toys sent me their Indoor Gardening Kit to review and I am equally as impressed!

About Green Toys:
Green Toys Inc. makes an awesome line of classic children’s toys constructed from recycled plastic and other environmentally friendly materials. This helps reduce fossil fuel use and reduce greenhouse gas emissions, improving the overall health and happiness of the planet. Green Toys are also safe for our children. They contain no traceable amounts of Phthalates or BPA and have no external coatings so there is no need to worry about lead!

The Indoor Gardening Kit comes with three yellow pots, a peapod-shaped tray, trowel, three packs organic seeds of zinnia, basil, and teddybear sunflower, and three soil discs. The kit is ADORABLE and honestly, even tough it's technically for kids; it is proudly sitting on my kitchen window sill! I cannot wait for the basil to grow so that I can use to cook with!

The gardening kit is intended for kids, ages 5 and up and I think it is an excellent way to introduce children to protecting our planet and the benefits of organic living. It really provides parents with an educational opportunity while still remaining a fun activity! Kids will enjoy planting the seeds and watching them grow in the days and weeks to come. After that, kids can work on nourishing their plants and keeping them healthy. It is the perfect activity to do now since it is the Spring and it's a great way to teach your kids about the different seasons.

Even though Lucas is too young to really understand gardening; Mike and I still took the opportunity to plant the seeds with him. He knows what a flower is and says "FOW-WA" so I thought he would still get some enjoyment out of watching the plants grow. We planted the seeds together and every time that I water them; I have Lucas do it with me and I tell him that we have to go "feed" the baby flowers. It has been about a week since I planted the seeds and they have already started to grow. I love this little kit so much! Not only is it great for kids, but practical to have in your kitchen as well.
