Look Good...Feel Better: Giving Women Battling Cancer Their Self-Confidence Back!
One in three American women are expected to receive a cancer diagnosis in their lifetime. Shocking and scary. In some way, shape, or form cancer is likely to touch all of our lives whether it is someone we know that has it or even ourselves. For women battling cancer, treatment can be especially tough as their self-confidence is greatly diminished due to hair loss, skin changes, etc. Feeling good about yourself is always important, but it is vital for a woman fighting for her life. Through Mom Central, I found out about an amazing organization, called Look Good...Feel Better that offers a free program that helps improve the self-image, appearance, and quality of life of women undergoing cancer treatment by teaching beauty techniques to help them cope with the appearance related consequences of cancer treatment and restore their appearance and self-confidence through active learning in group, one-on-one, or self help situations. To celebrate their 20th anniversary, Look Good...Feel Better is asking women cancer survivors to submit their stories of how the program helped them cope with cancer as a way to inspire others who may currently be undergoing cancer treatment. Entries will be featured on the Women of Hope is Beautiful blog to help educate others. Anyone can visit the site to view entries, make comments and show their support. In August, Look Good…Feel Better will choose five women with the most-compelling stories to receive a trip to New York City for a makeover and a trip to the DreamBall, a black-tie gala and the program's largest annual fundraiser, held each year in New York City.
If you or someone that you know can benefit from Look Good...Feel Better, please let them know about this amazing program. Programs are also available for Spanish speaking women and even teens! Please visit Look Good...Feel Better for more information.
