The Navigator Upright Vacuum Cleaner by Shark: Review
I have a three story home when you include the finished basement. As you can imagine, cleaning is a big chore and getting my vacuum cleaner up and down all those stairs is really no fun. I have been wanting a lighter vacuum for a long time now, but I didn't want to sacrifice suction power for convenience. Recently, I told you guys about the Shark Steam Mop and I am so excited to tell you about the Shark Navigator, a full sized upright vacuum cleaner that is light and powerful!Shark Euro-Pro has introduced it’s newest vacuum, the Navigator with Infinity Technology. This new model is one of the most agile and lightweight uprights on the market, but doesn’t sacrifice cleaning power. The Shark Navigator combines a high level of maneuverability, swift turnability and powerful suction to provide unprecedented cleaning ease to consumers who are tired of bulky and heavy vacuums. The Shark Navigator features 21 cyclones to easily pick up the toughest messes, as well as Infinity Technology so the Navigator never loses suction.
Shark sent me a a Navigator to test out and I am SO IMPRESSED with it! It comes with a power nozzle, pet hair brush, and 24" crevice tool. The electrical cord is very long at 30 feet. It is a bagless design with lifetime filters and belt so you never have to pay for replacements. It even came with an additional filter to use while one is drying! Very cool!
So, here's the deal-this vacuum cleaner ROCKS! As soon as it arrived, I took it out of the box, quickly put it together, and put it to the true test. If it can pick up the dog hair that relentlessly creeps into every nook and cranny of my home without losing suction then it's a keeper in my book! It did that and more! We've been using it now for several weeks and it still runs like it did the first day and has not lost any suction at all. It has two setting-carpet and hard surface floors. It works beautifully on hardwood and tile floors, which is a rare feature to find in a vacuum. It weighs only 15 pounds, it's sleek, and very easy to maneuver. You can get it into tight spaces and under furniture without a problem. My favorite feature? The pet hair brush. Seriously, this tool is so amazing. I am actually a little bit addicted to using it. It got all of the dog hair off of my cream colored living room sofa. All of it. Within seconds. Amazing. The only con that I see with the Shark Navigator Vacuum is that the dirt cup is a little small. I would love to see it with a bigger cup so that I wouldn't have to empty it as often, but other than that this vacuum is exceptional!
See The Navigator In Action:
Want It: The Navigator can be purchased at Bed Bath & Beyond for $199.99 AND I have received emails letting me know that it is also available at Wal-mart for $155.
UPDATE: I heard back from a Shark representative about the belts. The vacuum has a Lifetime Warranty. If the belt breaks, then Shark will replace it for you. However, please make sure to double check this with Euro-Pro Shark as I have had some commenters state differently.

Our house is three levels too if you include our finished basement. That's why we kept both my sweeper and my husband's sweeper when he moved in! Now we two sweepers for three floors :) They both actually broke, and I'm so proud of my husband for fixing them last weekend!
June 9, 2009 1:03 AM
Awesome! My vacuum has lasted us for 5 years and I am just guessing it's nearing its end. So I am keeping an eye out for the new (and decently priced) vacuum.
June 9, 2009 4:57 PM
That is very nice!!! I need one of these!
July 17, 2009 3:53 PM
I just ordered one of these from Shark. I actually got the Shark Navigator for $199 plus a FREE steam mop (reg $99) for free! The offer is not on the website. I saw it on a commercial on HGTV. I phoned and asked about the offer and they gave it to me! I can't wait to use my new vacuum. It has most of the features a Dyson has for less than half the cost!
July 19, 2009 3:42 PM
I am so stoked to buy this vacuum I want it bad we have 2 floors a dog a chinchilla 2 boys who make lots of messes and a baby on the way. I seen the previews thought it was too good to be true but since a real person has shown me this is a great vacuum I want it. for the special from shark the link is http://www.sharknavigator.com/
its 4 payments of $49.95 and 45.90 in s&h and you get a free steam mop with the purchase or you can pay 1 payment for $199.80 plus the $45.90 S&H and Free Steam Mop.

If this vacumn cleaner is so
great,why does Consumer Report
rate it number 38 out of a possible 40 cleaners tested?
July 31, 2009 6:26 PM
Consumer reports DID NOT rate this vacuum. Therefore, how could it have rated "38 out of a possible 40?" I have not come across a bad review yet and am still looking before purchasing.
August 1, 2009 4:42 PM
I can't speak for this vacuum, but I can say that as far as consumer reports is concerned, they don't even mention the existence of Shark as a brand. My guess is that this is because Shark doesn't buy advertising.
Consumer reports does recommend a vacuum from the Hoover Wind Tunnel line as their best rated upright. I can say that I bought a Hoover Wind Tunnel partially based on reviews in consumer reports about a year ago. This machine was probably the most worthless POS I've ever wasted nearly $300 on.
Whatever Shark has done with this vacuum can't be anywhere near as bad as my consumer reports / Hoover vac. I may just give this thing a chance.
August 7, 2009 11:06 AM
Ditto what Dave W said. My Hoover Wind Tunnel is a POS. Little over a year old, I"ve had to replace a torn belt, the power back up feature quit working and now the power switch has quit working; it's in the ON position fortunately but have to unplug it to turn it off. NOT SAFE! Not to mention that it is almost worthless on hard floors. Replaced a Shark cannister vac. with this piece of garbage and can't wait to get back to a Shark. Will order the Shark Navigator ASAP.
August 9, 2009 3:23 PM
I bought on the the Shark Euro-Pro x vacuum. It lost suction in 2months on normal use. It's a total POS. I wonder if this Navigator is actually good as they show in the infomercial. I highly doubt.
August 10, 2009 11:19 AM
Just so you all know, after having problems with broken belts with my Dyson D17, I asked about belts for the Navigator as they aren't listed as replacement parts on the Shark website. Customer service told me that they AREN'T replaceable and that the whole vacuum head would need to be replaced. BEWARE!
August 11, 2009 10:51 PM
Just a comment as far as belts go? I caught the infomercial on tv today and while I am very aware of the fact that they always make things look like the best ever of whatever they might be selling, I did notice that it says you get free replacements of the filters and belts. Sounds pretty good to me but, I can't figure out why you'd have to replace the whole head if the belt goes?
August 12, 2009 9:43 AM
I found this post when searching for reviews for the Shark Navigator that I just saw on a commercial! :-)
I have to say it is a typical review for someone who is excited about a product. I don't think it's very objective at all. Do people *really* vacuum this slowly? I've been doing it wrong! I think while vacuuming this slowly, *any* vacuum would work! I also noticed the hair & debris that was stuck in the canister when you tried to empty it, which you conveniently cut out of the video. Did you have to stick your hand up in there?
My first vacuum was a Dyson & I hated it. I never understood why people raved about it so. Then, after reading several reviews on Amazon, I realized that it's entirely subjective and that most people use really cheap vacuums and/or don't maintenance them regularly. I don't blame them; I wouldn't be looking at reviews of the Shark Navigator if I wasn't a budget-buyer--but this post threw me over the top. I now know that I *will* have to buy the $900 vacuum I've been wanting.
August 12, 2009 10:48 AM
I just wanted to jump in and say a few things.
1. This post gets a lot of attention and I appreciate everyone that has visited!
2. I am NOT a professional reviewer. To be one, I would have to have access to many vacuum cleaners, labs, and tools to test the vacuum which I do not. I can ONLY go by my own experiences with vacuums that I have owned. That's it. And, YES reviews are subjective because they are a reflection of the reviewers own experience.
3. Shark DID NOT pay me to write this review! They DID send me a vacuum to test and keep for free, but I was not paid any money in any way.
4. It's been a couple of months since I wrote this review and I still love this vacuum cleaner. My main basis on whether a vacuum is worth buying is whether is keeps its suction. So far, so good!
5. Another thing to note is that my home is mostly hardwood floors. I have some carpet in the basement and two bedrooms upstairs have carpet. Other than that, I have hardwood floors or tile everywhere else with area rugs in several of those places. I should have said that it in my review, but I mostly write with my readers in mind who have heard me talk about my hardwood floors.
6. Of course, people do not vacuum that slow, but for the purpose of a video I had to do it that way for you guys to be able to see the vacuum in use.
7. I will email the Shark rep. and ask about the replacement belts and update my post with the answer as soon as I get it.
8. If you have questions, feel free to email me. I always try to reply to my emails as quickly as possible.
9. Please do not come here and leave nasty, spam comments. I moderate my comments and will not approve those so you're wasting your time.

JUST CURIOUS IF YOU HAD HEARD ABOUT THE BELTS OR REPLACING THE WHOLE HEAD YET?
August 17, 2009 2:10 AM
Does anyone have the website they give on the commercial or the number? I really want to order! Thank you.
August 17, 2009 2:49 PM
Michelle...
they are still doing free mop with navigator order, but you need to go to this website.....
www.SharkClean.com/SharkNavigator
(Anonymous is wrong, it is through one of their websites also, she must of went to the wrong one)
PS looked for free shipping coupon, and never found one!
August 21, 2009 3:28 AM
Hi all, just bought this vacuum today and I really like it! 1st, it's waaaayyy quieter than my previous dirt devil canister vac. This is great for myself and my cats, (They usually go into hiding for at least an hour, with new vac only 15 mins. lol) It's lightweight, and easy to operate, REALLY strong suction, I have a large area rug and could only go in one direction (with grain) or else it would get sucked up and the vac turns of the spinning motion to avoid clogs. Pretty smart! What else..The pet hair brush works really well, I have only a few minor complaints- Wish there was a spot on vac to attach pet hair brush and extender for detachable hose. You have to carry these around with you. They give you a bag to keep them in, but still its a pain. And the dust canister is a wee bit small. But big enough to vac the house with one time. (empty after) And the emptying is super easy. No touching dust! As for the belts, they say it should last a lifetime, but it does have 5 year warranty to protect you. So I give it 4 1/2 stars outa 5. Got mine at Bed Bath and Beyond, they have it for $199.00 but I had 20% off mailer so $160.00 and they sell the steam mop for $79.00 and I used another 20% of mailer on that so $64.00 Grand total= $224.00 Cheaper than ordering online and Bed Bath and Beyond has a great return policy so if you don't like the items you can bring em' back AND you don't have to wait for shipping. If you don't already receive their 20% off coupons, you can sign up for them online (to be mailed to your house) on their website. Hope this helps everyone. I haven't tried steam mop yet but I'll try and let you know how it works. :) PS, TO THE JOLLY MOM? How'd you get hooked up with the product testing gig? I'd love to do something like that?
August 21, 2009 10:36 AM
I just got this vacuum from Walmart and it did not come with the steam mop or other goodies that make it so attractive on TV. That being said however I AM impressed with this unit and I can honestly say it has more suction than any vacuum I have used in the past 25 years. I have a bagless panasonic canister that I thought had a strong suction but it is not close to the Navigator.
I do find that it is rather easy to push on the carpet and it does a superb job. I think the other attachments mentioned on TV would be good but the cost including shipping for that package for me would be $232 and I paid $170 total at Walmart. I really would like to know the answer regarding the belt replacement as it is NOT listed in parts that are available but for the $60 extra dollars and the 4 payments I sure am tempted to return this to Walmart and go with the TV ad.
Before I started using this today I used my $900 Miele which I think is the best thing since sliced bread except for the fact that bags are expensive although the capacity is probably 5x the Dyson and I went over the same area of the carpet 4x. I then went over the same area with the Navigator and it picked up a considerable amount of "sand" and dirt in addition to carpet fibers. The Miele has a couple of advantages though and that is the quietness and superior hepa filtration without release into the air, YET for the cost, this Navigator is something else and I can't wait to take it over my parents home and do their carpets as they are using a swivel sweeper right now so it will be a night/day difference. I found that with a VERY low pile runner the navigator was very hard to push as the suction was so strong and there was no pile to raise the brush off of it like it does on other carpet. In conclusion, I am very very impressed with the performance and it is my hope that the carpet fibers I am seeing are those that are loose to begin with and do not keep coming out. Although there is no video/DVD instruction the printed instructions are fine and the manual is very good as well. I think that Euro-Pro has a winner here and I congratulate Mark. Frankly I would not believe all that Consumer Reports says and there is ZERO way that I would rate any other upright above this one in terms of weight, ease of manuvering, suction power, and price/performance.
August 21, 2009 1:02 PM
I want to update my last post.. I just returned from vacuum of parents carpets/floors and I am really impressed. In less than 90 minutes I filled the cup up 3x and much of it was sand and dirt that was in the carpet. It also is far easier to manuver than the Dyson. Too bad I cannot sell these things as they are superb and the only thing still that I am waiting for is the status of the belt replacement and how much it will cost us in $ to have it replaced should it be necessary. If there are to be two negatives they would be that the cord hook at the top is pretty useless so I am just coiling it over the cyclone housing and support is based out of India. Future suggestions might be a larger dirt cup, better cord hook or even an auto rewind as I know some like myself would pay extra for that convenience.

Shark has a bad history of handling warranty repairs. The warranty basically only covers the motor. They will charge for all other parts.
August 25, 2009 2:10 AM
I do the cleaning at my church and we needed to get a new vacuum. I have a Dyson at home that I am very happy with. I wanted something that would work as well as that but not quite as expensive. We noticed on TV about the Shark Navigator HEPA Bagless and was wondering if it was as good as they advertised. I must say that I am very pleased with it. It is small and lightweight which is a plus. The only downfall...if you want to call it that, is when using the hose on the vacuum it can get a little tippy. The head on the shark is also a little smaller than on my Dyson. It doesn't have as wide of a swipe. So if you are looking for a good vacuum for a cheaper price, I highly recommend this. I just hope that it lasts for many years to come. We shall see.
August 25, 2009 8:07 AM
Everyone has conditions to their warranty for example Dyson has this interesting exclusion: "Clearing blockages from your machine"
For the price and ease of use, size/weight and incredible suction and cleaning that I experienced with the Shark, I have no problem paying ~ 1/3 the cost of a Dyson and taking the chance on the warranty.
August 27, 2009 12:02 PM
How well does the Shark work on shag carpet?
August 27, 2009 12:16 PM
Still waiting for an answer to the questions that you guys submitted.
And, I'm not sure how the vacuum works on shag carpets. I have only tried it on regular carpet, rugs, hardwood floors, and tile floors--no shag carpets yet.
Maybe someone else can help?
August 29, 2009 9:43 AM
UPDATE: I heard back from a Shark representative about the belts. The vacuum has a Lifetime Warranty. If the belt breaks, then Shark will replace it for you.
August 29, 2009 11:47 AM
One suggestion I could make to make it seem like a more unbiased review, would be to comment on a negative thing(s) about the vacuum. Not trying to incite any blog arguments here, but the review seems awfully one sided. It may be a really great vacuum, but it would be good to hear about some not so good things. Every good product has at least one con. Thanks!
Bruce
August 29, 2009 12:03 PM
Hi Bruce--thanks for stopping by and commenting. I totally agree that there is no such thing as a perfect product. If you read the review, then you know that I pointed out that the dirt cup is small (a deal breaker for some people)-other than that I haven't figured out another negative yet.
August 30, 2009 4:24 PM
I got my Shark Navigator a few weeks ago and have been raving to everyone about it. We have THREE dogs and a cat-it makes my furniture look brand new. I used it on the interior of my sister's truck, which had a ton of embedded dog hair, and it came out great. I have had good luck with it on my floors (hardwood) and have used the brush attachment to dust furniture and walls with great success, I even used it to clean my ceiling fans. The extension wand is great for those out of reach places. My grandson "helped" me, he got a kick out of watching the dirt spin in the cup and he loved to help empty it. The hair and dirt does NOT get stuck in the cup, as someone assumed it did. I had a Shark canister in the past and I liked it, but I LOVE this one. I used the 4 payments online and got the free steamer (works great on grout). Kathy in CT

Shagg Carp:
You have to switch it to the floor setting, otherwise it gets caught, but suction is very strong, still cleans good...
September 3, 2009 5:30 PM
Worth the money!!! I just wanted to say that this review is right on the nose. A few of my friends own Dysons and are happy with them, one of them actually told me about this vacuum so I searched high and low and found one available at a local Walmart. I also own another cheaper shark which does an good job at picking up pet hair (I also own 3 large dogs) who shed alot. I wanted to really put this machine to the test so I let my carpet go for a few more days then normal ran the cheaper shark first and the navigator right over the same areas and I still had to empty the cup 3 times. Fur, dander, and dust filled up in there fast. Great product and much cheaper then a Dyson. My only 2 things that took me some time to get used to were, no button release for the cleaning path and at first I seemed to be hitting my furniture at bit until I got used to how this vacuum moved. It also does an amazing job at cleaning bare floors, it was pulling debris in from several inches away.
September 3, 2009 11:15 PM
After having the Shark for a few weeks now I am still impressed with it and the post that Jolly Mom did about the belt being lifetime is great news. If I would offer suggestions for a subsequent model it would be with a cord rewind and a variable suction feature as it is very strong and may pull curtains down .
September 10, 2009 4:02 PM
This vacuum must be doing something right.. I wanted to add one more thing that I have noticed. I own alot of electronics...A digtial picture frame, Tv's, computers etc. Well when I was running my old vacuum I found myself having to dust everything about every 2 to 3 days. Since I have been using the navigator I only had to do a "mild" dusting and not a whole lot was left on the dust brush, also it has been more of a 2 week span since I dusted last.
September 12, 2009 2:18 AM
Thanks SO MUCH for all the comments. I was just watching the infomercial that came on @ 2am in my area and I've been a little intrigued before.
Funny, I now have the Bissell Pet Pick-up I got 3 years ago and now something is wrong with it. I thought it was a great vacuum but from these reviews, I see I was wrong. With the Bissell, I HATE having to put my hands in the dirt cup to get out things that are stuck.
I love how the Navigator has the one button release cup.
I think I'm convinced. I want to get the mop too so you can't beat the deal really. I will post again once I get it.
I'm a little scared b/c although this may sound strange, I LOVE to vacuum. The last time I brought a vac I was late to work b/c I just had to put it together and test it out.

I've only caught the infomercial a couple times, and the website doesn't really provide much info. What exactly does the Shark Navigator come with? I know about the pet brush (great) and the crevice tool...but does it have a dust brush? I use that brush to dust delicate things like lampshades, etc. And does it really come with two filters so one can be washed while the other is in use?
September 14, 2009 3:33 PM
WOW!! I have researched this vacuum everywhere I can. I am actually trying to find something negative...so far, the positive outweigh the negative. The only thing that I have not seen/heard anything about is FRISE carpet. I have all hardwood/tile, and all of my bedrooms are frise. Does anyone know if it will work on this type of carpet. I am ordering mine today. I will order right from Shark's website. I am also excited to get the steam mop. Haven't heard if that is a deal or dud. Does anyone know if the steam mop is safe on pergo/laminate flooring? (I do not actually have "hardwood"..it is laminate) I can't wait to use it, I will let you all know once I receive it how I like it. THANKS!
September 15, 2009 3:32 PM
Anonymous in NC update.....
I ordered my vacuum online the other day. Total of $259 for everything.
I'm now upset b/c I can't be given an estimated date of arrival.
The op tells me anywhere from 1 to 3 wks.
Problem is I need it NOW b/c my Bissell has broken on me. Think I'll be heading out to Bed, Bath and Beyond but I did let the op know I wasn't happy w/ this vague estimate of shipment.
September 16, 2009 4:29 AM
You can buy a Shark Navigator at Walmart for 160 Bucks but you don't get the tools. That is the only problem, I would get it from www.sharkclean.com They give you a great deal there.
September 17, 2009 1:05 AM
Anonymous in NC, last update.
Talked to customer service and they said it was too late to cancel my order so I could just refuse the package when its delivered and I'll get a full refund.
Okay, went this AM to Bed Bath and Beyond with my 20% off coupon, and got my Shark Navigator w/ all the tools and I LOVE it!!!!
The vacuum is SO quiet I can still watching/listen to TV w/o blasting it like I did w/ my Bissell.
It has so powerful, yet so small. When I first took it out the box, I was a little upset w/ how small the cleaning path was but I know love how I can maneuver around my chairs and I feel it makes the cleaning better.
It picked up so much dirt/sand and a lot of pet hair (I have 2 dogs)
I'm impressed and I even told my coworker about it.
Overall I LOVE it and I feel everyone should get one. (Just get it from Bed, Bath and Beyond)
I told the clerk in Bed, Bath and Beyond today that I'll be back w/ my next coupon to get my steam mop!!!
September 20, 2009 3:38 PM
I loved my Shark! I had the larger Infinity then bought this Navigator because it is smaller and purple (lol). I recently moved into an apartment with hardwood floors and so I am selling my brand new Navigator. Email me at carmenbelcher@yahoo.com if interested. It's never been removed from the box.
September 27, 2009 11:26 PM
Just bought this vacuum I have a Sears upright and this Shark is awesome so much better and half the price and no costly bag fees.. I have two terriers and I vacuum every day and when I tried this it picked up so much hair my rugs look beautiful - it was so easy ...was a little hesitant because Consumer Report didnt even list the Shark but I just love it light weight pretty and best of all budget friendly thanks Shark!!
October 19, 2009 12:04 AM
I have seen the commercials about the Shark Navigator, and was ALMOST convinced to get one, until today. We went to Bed Bath and Beyond where they have them, and they have carpets there complete with dirt to test them. The Shark Navigator was barely picking anything up, even after I emptied out the dust cup. I tried the hose attachment, and the suction it was generating was very low... Truly a joke. I then tried the dyson Ball vaccum, and it outperformed it by several miles! The Dyson is also much much lighter, and easier to handle. Its no wonder the Dyson costs more, and that is because it is simply better. I would much rather pay the extra 200.00 that the Dyson cost me to have a better performing vacuum, with a better warranty, and have a cleaner home... I am only speaking from my experience... If you don't believe me, email me at mrbilljohnson@yahoo.com and I will gladly email you a copy of my sales receipt, dated Oct 18, 2009
October 24, 2009 9:51 AM
hello, I just recently watched the info commercial on the Shark Navigator! my one and very important question is: How good is it on carpeted stairs? i have 2 cats and that is my biggest pet peeve..the stairs..i spend hours trying to clean them fromt he hair..so if anyone can help me out there, i would so appreciate it!
October 24, 2009 3:31 PM
WHERE ARE THE COUPONS??? Anyone know or have ever used one for the purchase of the Navigator online? Please let me know as I am going to wait a little to see if I can get a hold of one before buying.
October 30, 2009 6:40 PM
Thank you for your review, I have included your review in our summary roundup for the Shark Navigator.
November 8, 2009 12:16 PM
so i saw an infomercial for the navigator and decided to do a little research before i decide to purchase but just to let everyone know its on sale now, if you order from shark it comes with a free steam mop and accessories with a monthly payment plan.
November 19, 2009 8:41 PM
we are just about to pay big bucks for a dyson...but i wanted to get a cannister model dc23...because we have both hard floors and carpet. my sister has this shark navigator and told me to research. can anyone tell me if i would be happier with a cannister in the long run...i am tall, like the hose and long handle for cleaning stairs, hard floors, in tights areas etc. on a cannister model. can someone convince me that an upright is just as versatile? I would like to save 300$ but also want to be happy in the long run.
November 26, 2009 3:23 PM
so, my sister bought a shark and a dyson in the same week. yes the shark worked well - but there is a lot more versatility in the dyson in the end. we went with a dyson after all...upright ball unit and are VERY pleased. it is the warranty that gets you...five years. total coverage. the shark - not as great.

I have to say thank you for all of the fantastic reviews of this vaccuum! I am getting married in July 2010, and recently did my bridal registry. I had originally planned on registering for a Dyson, which was $400, but saw the Navigator and decided to do a little research...the reviews on this blog have solidified my decision against the Dyson and for the Shark! As a new wife, I will be looking forward to cleaning my new home with this vaccuum! Thanks for the reviews on this product!!
December 6, 2009 12:07 PM
I see that you posted your original review in June. Wondering how the Navigator is holding up. I read a review on another site when using the hose/ attachments the Navigator tends to tip. Have you experience that? Also the Navigator does not have a light in the front, not sure if its really needed, but most vaccums have a light. I was trying to decide between the Navigator and the Dyson DC17 or Dc25. The Dyson cost twice as much but I think has a better warranty. Please let me know your thoughts about the Navigator's warrantly. The warrantly seems to be limited, plus if something goes wrong, you have to mail in for repair at their discretion.

I bought a SHARK handheld at Walmart and have not been able to get any replacement filters via the company--they do not respond via phone or chat. The V157 model is not even on their website.. RIPOFF!!

Hi ... i stayed at my sisters house for a week (she was out of town) and she has a Shark vac. She also has cats that leave hair behind everywhere, constantly. There was so much cat hair in the house, we were sneezing all the time and just wanted to go home early.
Well .... yes she has a Shark ... but she is not into cleaning the house! We could not stand it any longer, so we went to work .... my first time using a Shark. IT WAS FANTASTIC even though all her filters were dirty ( i cleaned them for her). When I got back home, the first thing I did was to buy my own Shark.
Just got my new Shark Navigator and have no regrets. It has found dirt / dust that my old machine totally missed .... I mean a lot, not a little. It is light and quiet. It is easy to work with. The suction power is great ... really. The air leaving the machine is clean ... no dirty exhaust ...
I like it ... I think you will, too.

Jolly Mom - Would you mind giving an update and letting us know how this vacuum is holding up? I have been researching vacuum cleaners and looking for a new one, and just saw the infomercial for this one last night...and I am fascinated! All of the reviews I have read - here and on other sites - have been good. Thanks for the info!

I bought the Shark Navigator two days ago. I was able to purchase it for $159 off the web.
I have a Hoover bagless (9 years old) that is still in good condition. I vaccuumed the entire house with it. Then I vaccuumed with the Shark.... WOW!!!! This machine picks up the nap and makes the carpet look almost new. I cleaned my mini blinds, carpets, area rugs, all my floors. I even DUSTED WITH IT! Hoover is now retired and going into the garage sale.
The steam mop will be here in a few days. I can't wait.

Can someone give me feedback on the noise level of the Shark Navigator? The vacuum we have now is so noisy we hate to turn it on. I mean obnoxious, grating noise. it has plenty of suction, but we need something a little more quiet!
January 28, 2010 8:06 AM
It is not very noisy at all and for the performance it offers at the price it cannot be beat.

I just bought the Navigator and used it on my freise (short shag) carpeting. I can't believe how much dust/dirt/pet hair it picked up and it was really easy to push over the carpeting. This room had just been vacuumed by my cleaning lady on Wednesday. I will have her use this vacuum next time. I love it.

I went to your shark link at bed and bath but its says not available

NO BELTS required -
I knew I read this somewhere..."The beater brush is not driven with a belt (there are no belts in this thing), it is gear driven with a small motor (not the fan motor)."
For those wondering about belts, etc., the Navigator apparently uses a geared system instead of belts, so you won't have to deal with belts. Motorcycles have gone through something similar -- just easier to maintain.

I just received my Shark Navigator today. I bought it through an informercial. So far so good. I recently returned the Bissel Pet Lift Off due to poor suction and performance. I had a Hoover Wind Tunnel for 10 years and it did a great job (not bagless).
I vacuummed a small area in my living room with my wind tunner and then my shark. The Shark picked up alot of lint and sandlike matter. The cleaning path is smaller than what I am used to but I actually like it. You can maneuver the vacuum into small spaces. I couldn't believe how quiet it is. The motor is quiet and the dust cup doesn't make sounds of things hitting the plastic like the Bissel lift off did. You do get an extra set of filters to use while your drying the other set. Maintenance consists of cleaning 3 different filters. 2 of the filters get cleaned every 3 months and the 3rd gets cleaned.....i think every 6 or 12 months (can't remember which). The dust cup is very small and had to empty after each room.....keep in mind my hoover was very tired and leaving behind alot (although not visible to eye). The Shark does have a hook at the bottom for hose to prevent vacuum from tipping. I had no problems with tipping, but I didn't over extend the hose either. I was seriously considering buying a dyson but am so glad I found the Navigator.....lot less money and does just as good.

thank you for everyone's comment. it's good to hear from different points of view. does anyone know if the shark navigator pick up and hold alergens?
March 9, 2010 6:55 AM
I have large birds,a dog, cats, and three kids. My son(11) usually has half of the football team here and it doesn't take them long to make a mess! I thought about a Dyson, but I just couldn't bring myself to spend more on a vaccume than my car payment. I found the Navigator at walmart for $159. LOVE this vaccume!!!! Picks up bird seed, dog and cat hair, popcorn, you name it.I have owned dirt devils and bissel. Dirt devil was a POS. My Bissel velocity was good for three years. The Navigator blows it away. Was shocked at what it pulled out of the carpet! The only downfall Is the small dirt cup. I have noticed that after a couple of weeks it didn't fill up as fast. Not because it lost suction at all. I think it just pulled the junk out of the carpet. I have had mine for 2 months and love it more every time I use it!
March 21, 2010 5:58 PM
I'm also interested in finding out about how good it hold out allergens. Like many others, I'm trying to make a decision between a dyson and the shark. I know the shark comes with a HEPA filter, but is this comparable performance wise to a dyson? is the hepa filter a washable one too?
April 7, 2010 8:54 AM
I just bought it from sharkclean.com, added the extended reach kit (29.99), which put me over $200, so I used the coupon code "75 off", and with expedited shipping (9.95 extra), my total bill was $217.55. Without expedited shipping, that would be $207.60. Included the navigator vac, accessories, extended reach kit, steam mop, etc. 5 year warranty and shipping... not bad!
There is also a "25 off" coupon that works if you don't go over $200 in purchase cost...
April 7, 2010 3:38 PM
I LOVE this vac. I have 2 cats and one dog. The pet tool is the best I hae ever used. I can sit on the floor and clean the curtains as well. the cats love to hide back there. My carpets look so much better. I dont mind the 30 sec dumping of hair/dirt. It makes me happy to see how much it actually picks up. Even my allergies are better. The steam mop came with it and what a deal for free. Oh... the best....I ran it over some water and the green light would not go on. My husband called customer service and they sent a whole new head in 5 days. the next morning it must have dried out ok and it worked. now I have a replacement head. an 80 dollar value. yeah!!!! not great for water but otherwise 5 stars.

Thank you Poster No. 68. Because I added an additional item to my cart, in order to bring the vacuum and steam mop over the 199.00 cart total, I was able to use the 75OFF COUPON for orders over 200.00 which brought my total down almost 60 bucks!!!! I added two extra microfiber clothes. So I get the vacuum, steam mop and extra clothes and shipping for 200.00 !
April 19, 2010 10:17 PM

April 22, 2010 10:45 AM
I purchased this vacuum in January after reading your review.. and I absolutely LOVE it! In my personal opinion, there isn't a better vacuum out there! But i am just wondering, how often are you supposed to change the filter? And when a filter gets dirty, can you just clean it? I havent changed the filter yet, but i did notice it has a fine white powder in it (im guessing its just from my new carpet).. If it can be cleaned, how do you recomend cleaning it?
April 22, 2010 4:19 PM
Hey Guys. let me tell you what I just did. I found a coupon online for a $75.00 off a $200.00 purchase so I added a bundle of the micro fiber pads for less than $25.00 So I got everything the Vacumm steam mop and the extra pads for 201.00 including shipping and taxes. Pretty cool huh! the code is 75OFF

I reviewed this vacuum for about a month before I decided to buy it. I have a one story house (all hardwood with laminate in the bathrooms and kitchen), but a huge finished attic and carpet is bein installed soon so it can be a room. So I have a 2 level home. I saw this vacuum on a infomercial and I thought..."well it looks like it works well, but whats the catch? I highly doubt it works that well on hardwood, and the suction probably sucks" SO I continued to google reviews, coming across this blog, along with researching the product. My friend has the steam mop and she has all hardwood and loved it. I doubted the steam mop as well. So I gave in and bought these products. and i freaking love them. THIS VACUUM DOES WORK ON HARDWOOD FLOORS! I have not used it on any carpet yet, but I know for a fact the bare floor feature is amazing. The suctions pressure changes when you put on the different attachments. For example when you use the dog hair attachment it REALLY sucks up the hairs. I love the small attachments for corners. I use it for the corners and i use the brush attachment for the crown molding. As for what I think could improve: I do think the hose is very long and easy to move around, but I would like to see a longerpiece to attach to the top of the hose for my vaulted ceilings. Im wondering if they did not do that because fear of losing suction power. Also, I would love to see a light on the vacuum for vacuuming at night. I live in an older house where lights were not in the living room. Lamps can only provide so much light. Obviously these do not make or break buying this vacuum it is well worth the money. As far as the steam mop. Pure genius. I thought my floors were not going to be properly cleaned and I did not see how it sanitized. I have noticed a very nice shine in my floors and everyone who has come in has said that my floors are really clean. So BYE BYE MOP AND BUCKET. For those of you who would like to purchase both- I almost bought the vacuum from sharkonline because you recieve a free shark steam mop, BUT you pay 50 s&h. I went to walmart and got this vacuum for 160 and paid 60 or 70 for the steam mop. Still cheaper than purchasing online, you still get the attachments and the 2 mop pads, AND the best part you do not have to wait for you products! However, the payment method provided online is very convienent because 200 somethin for a family with children can be spendy. And as important it is to a mother that her house be clean, usually moms tend to spend the money on something more "important". i.e kids need clothes, food, dog needs to go to the vet etc. Anyways, point bein mothers do not have to feel guilty for splurging on this purchase. Not only does it ELMINATE a lot of time spent on the mop and broom, it sanitizes and properly cleans your home along with people noticing this! And for us busy moms with children it is very very hard to keep a spotless house, and hardwoods can get pretty nasty with pets and those certain people that do not know how to take their shoes off! hehe. Anyways I reccommend this product, I am in high hopes the suction will not be lost. I will check back in a fews months with an update!

I have ordered the shark Euro-Pro w/steam mop and am anxious to get it. I now have one large Filter Queen (expensive to operate) and one small Bissel bagless vacuum that I use all the time! As long as I keep the filter clean (i bought extras and wash one, pop in another, ready to go!) it does an amazing job! Picking up pet hair was a real concern for me and this little vacuum does pick up ALL my dogs hair. I am still anxious to get this new vacuum and hope it lives up to its advertisement!
May 12, 2010 10:35 PM
Getting close to purchasing, but have two questions. Purchasing online or going to bed, bath & beyond. On the infomercial they advertise you get all these extras; do you get ALL of these buying it at BBB? Also, everyone is saying how powerful the suction is, do you think it is pulling out the fibers and eventually your carpet is thinned out?
May 14, 2010 12:12 PM
Just bought one at costco in Portland Oregon for about $160. Love it. Used to have an early model Dyson, they are comparable. Dirt cup does fill quickly, but it is smaller and lighter overall and does a great job.
June 5, 2010 11:04 PM
On The shark nv22l I bought mine at wal mart ( I know..) but paid 129.00 i have had electrolux and then Bissels but the shark in my opinion is the BEST for the price. I have a golden retriver and 2 kids im single dad, and this shark is teh best, powerful, only down falls. small cup to catch dirt hair etc. and not real wide brush but both are more than adequit and th ewashable filters and power more than make up for the 2 lacking things. It empties easily and so much cleaner than removing the containers on the bissels or the like. I do highly recommend the shark and I have. yep made in china but oh well what isnt. when i did put it together it would snap into place but after setting it on floor a litte extra push down and it is secure. oh ya and the portable brush that comes with it the dog loves being brushed with it. Just stay away from ears and eyes.
June 5, 2010 11:09 PM
I left a comment about shark and how I like it still do but was reading some other blogs one said about consumer reports rating. all i can say to that, is I would take the word of someone that actually uses a product with absolutely no affiliation. Than the word of a magazine or ad who sells out to the highest bidder. sure the Dyson id good probly but over 400 for it.. no way! Shark is IT!

Picked up my Shark today at Bed Bath & Beyond, they have it for $179.99 and used the 20% off coupon. The only thing I didn't get that the infomercial adds is the steam mop, it came with the other attachments. They also sell the steam mop and if you do a separate purchase of it with 20% off you will actually save money as opposed to ordering off infomercial because of shipping costs.
I used it as soon as I got it home and let me tell you, this thing is awesome. I have a one year old that is constantly playing on the floor so we always keep them vacuumed and clean, or so I thought. This picked up so much dirt that I couldn't even see it was amazing, our carpet is about 1/4 inch and it moved easily over it. The suction was so strong when I moved it to indented spots in the carpet where furniture was, it actually removed the indented spot so you couldn't tell where the furniture was. Also we have 2 dogs, one of which has hair like a shepherd (sheds like crazy), my daughter loves to find this hair and instantly put it in her mouth so we are always trying to find a way to clean this up. The Shark pulled up all of it, I mean it took some passes and a few dust cup empties but its worth not having my daughter with a mouthful of dog hair. Also our couch is micro fiber, the pet sweeper attachment was able to remove about 90% of the hair with no issues (nothing is perfect when its embedded in the fiber). Cons I would say is that the dust cup does fill up fast, but I imagine the more you use it the less dirt you will have in your carpet so it won't seem that bad. The other con is when using the pet sweeper attachment it is kind of a high pitched whining noise and the vacuum is very unstable, it seemed to tip over whenever the hose started to get stretched like more than 3 feet so I had to position it so my foot held it upright.
Definitely an excellent value, and I don't think a Dyson could be much better (especially not for $350 more).

I just ordered the Shark Vacuum and Steam Mop. I used the "75off" coupon posted by others...I ordered extra pads to get my order over $200. I wanted the Steam Mop for hardwood floors. There was no Tax for my state. My total was $201.45!! I know this price was better than going to "BB&B".
I'll post when I get the Vacuum and try it out. Thanks.
June 18, 2010 6:49 PM
I like it very much for the price. I purchased it because it is light and I had an injury and could not use my rainbow. It works very well except the fur gets wrapped around the brush and has to be cut to clean it out. I do have four dogs and alot of hair so that should be expected. It is easy to use and the suction is great. Emptying is a bit messy but like I said with four dogs that is expected. I highly recommend it to any that wants an easy small vaccum.

Just and FYI they now sell the Shark Navigator at Costco. And costco has and excellent return policy.

Hi I just wanted to add my comments on the vacuum. It's the best one I've ever had. And I have had a lot. Kirby, Dyson, Hoover, Eureka, Irobot, Fairfax, and a few others that I can't remember. The Shark Navigator is the best one yet. It's light weight, and easy to move around the house. The suction is beyond any vacuum I've ever had, yes even the Dyson. I've had it for a couple of weeks now. Works as great as the day I got it. And no they didn't not stop the video and reach up and get stuff out of the cannister that you didn't see. You just open the bottom and tap it a couple of times, and everything falls out.
I would recommend to everyone to buy this Shark. Best by far for your money.
You can buy it at Target. That is where I got mine. $179.00, with all the attachments. Wal-Mart has it for 156.00 but now attachments come with it.
Happy cleaning!

I am shocked at all the good reviews for this vacuum! Yes, it's light weight and works well on hardwood floors, I bought this because I have 2 dogs and vacuum nearly every day. It is horrible at picking up hair on carpets the brush gets stuck with the slightest amount of hair and I have to manually take it out. As for using it on a shag carpet...don't even try it. It doesn't have settings like most vacuums for short and shag carpets. I even tried to use it on an area rug and it grabbed the fibers and made the rug look horrible...I don't get it...I'm returning it!
August 3, 2010 8:35 PM
I just got this and have used it about 3 days. I have a Dyson animal which needs repaired and I didnt want to be without a vacuum with 2 dogs and 2 cats. My Dyson has been a NIGHTMARE. Have to say on just the two days that i LOVE this! It picks up more hair than my Dyson did when it was " supposedly' working. The suction is amazing and my house looks clean again. Will this vacuum last? That I dont know but I can tell you so far so good. I hate the small cup and the frequent emptying but i LOVE how it performs. The Dyson im not missing AT ALL :)

Aug. 15/10 Just watched the info commercial and am seriously considering purchasing. Total cost $258. Anyone have a promo code in order to reduce this price a bit?
Thanks, Sylvia

THINK TWICE BEFORE BUYING A SHARK. Their Customer Service and Technical Assistance Departments are the absolute pits. Following the purchase of a new Shark Navigator, I noted a constant whistling sound coming from the vacuum, a sound that was every bit as loud as the motor itself. I simply wanted to know if the sound was normal for this model or if it might suggest an air leak somewhere in the system. So over the next couple weeks I sent three (3) separate email to these two departments, each one asking that simple question. All three of my emails were ignored. I ultimately contacted their toll-free customer assistance line and asked them my question. I got what can only be described as a non-answer, being told that the whistling noise was "probably" normal. Not being willing to let it go at that, I sent a letter directly to the company's CEO complaining about my experiences and asking him for an answer to the one simple question I had already asked four times. He ignored my letter. Since I could not get an answer to this very simple question and being concerned that the whistle might indicate a problem with the vacuum, I've decided to box up the machine and return it to the store where I purchased it.
Of course, there is the 5 year warranty offered by Shark. That normally would have provided some assurance that if my vacuum failed, I would be protected from a costly repair. However, to take advantage of the warranty, the vacuum and all it's accessories must be returned to Shark along with a check for $16.99. Add the cost of shipping the vacuum back to them, which depending upon how you package it and the shipping method you use, and you'll likely be paying $40 to $50 just to have Shark take a look at your vacuum. However if Shark's Customer Service and Technical Assistance Departments are as bad as they appear to be, then how confident can one be that their Repair Department is any better. It's bad enough sending the vacuum back once and paying $40 to $50 for the privilege, but what if they don't repair it properly and you have to send it back to them again? I'm just not willing to take that chance.
I suggest that you ignore the Shark and instead purchase a vacuum make by a company with a proven track record for efficient and reliable customer service after the sale. Many vacuum manufacturers have local authorized repair stations, so checking to see if local service will be available for the brand you're considering purchasing should probably be the first step you take. As an added precaution, I would suggest that you make you purchase from one of the retailers that offers a 90 day return policy instead of the 30 days offered by many others. You'll at least have 3 months to put you new vacuum to the test and assure yourself that it is performing reliably and meeting your needs and expectations.
