Simplify Time Outs: The Time Out Pad Review & Giveaway!

Friday, June 12, 2009 Posted by Jolly Mom

Ahhh...the baby years...they don't last very long. You've got two years TOPS before you're sweet, angelic, cooing baby turns into a temper tantrum throwing two year old. You know what they don't tell you? Is that the Terrible Two's CAN actually start at age one and can last into the three's! Yes, that's why they call it Terrible Two's AND Three's. Nice. Guess who turns two in August? Yep. Lucas, my sweet little boy. I can already see it coming. He is already trying to show his "independence". Time outs are now necessary, but the dilemna most parents face is how do you help a toddler understand time. For example, it is recommended that a two year old sit in time out for 2 minutes, but how does a toddler know what two minutes is? And, how does a busy mom keep track of two minutes when food is on the stove, the phone is ringing, and other things have to get done? Finally, the real kicker is how do you KEEP a toddler in time out? That's where the Time Out Pad by Keen Distribution comes in!

About The Time Out Pad:
The Time Out Pad™ is a simple to use pressure pad with built-in timer that helps parents make the most of the time out technique.

How It Works:
  1. Simply set the built-in timer to the desired time-out duration (usually one minute per year of the child's age) and sit the child on the pressure sensitive pad.
  2. If the child gets up before the end of the programmed time, an alarm sounds to alert the parent or caregiver, and the countdown will pause until the child sits back down.
  3. Once the full time-out countdown has elapsed, the finish tune is played to let everyone know that the session has ended. The child should then apologize and be rewarded with a big hug!
Keen Distribution sent me a Time Out Pad to review and I think it is an exceptional discipline tool that solves many of the problems associated with time-outs. It gives children a visual representation of time by showing them when time is up and what's really cool is that the light turns yellow when there is only one minute left! That way squirmy kids know they only have a little longer to wait. If the child DOES get up, then an alarm sounds to alert the parents. This is essential because for time outs to work, there has to be consistency. Parents need to know if their child has gotten up! When the light turns green, a catchy jingle plays that lets both the child and parents know that time out is over. Also, the Time Out Pad brings structure and consistency to the time out process. The child knows what to expect, which translates into less resistance (hopefully-lol). Not to mention that the Time Out Pad can travel with you anywhere. It is small, lightweight, and compact! Take it to a restaurant, grandma’s house, and on vacation!

See The Time Out Pad In Action:

Want It: The Time Out Pad can be purchased online and retails for $34.99.

I'd love the Grobag Egg. It'd be great for my own peace of mind.
