WordWorld: The Flying Ant DVD Review & Giveaway
I'm a strong believer in limiting TV time for children to mostly educational programs. Of course, it also has to be fun for kids or forget it-they will not give it the time of day! That's why I was so happy when I found out about the PBS KIDS series WordWorld! It is fun, engaging, and educational! WordWorld brings words to life through a patent-pending methodology that embeds words into the objects they represent, crystallizing the connection between letters, sounds and words. WordWorld, launching its second season, has set the standard for how best to use interactive media in early-literacy instruction. Just check out the the results from a U.S. Department of Education-funded study done on the show!About the Study (from the press release):
A U.S. Department of Education-funded study found that WordWorld, an Emmy® winning PBS KIDS series, significantly strengthens early literacy skills in preschoolers, providing the building blocks essential for learning how to read. The study is part of the Ready To Learn Initiative that examines the effectiveness of various technologies being used to enhance the literacy skills of young children.
Overall gains from the study demonstrate that regardless of demographic, children developed important early literacy skills by watching WordWorld during the trial period. Key findings include:
- Children doubled their oral vocabulary skills of words featured in WordWorld
- Children tripled their ability to read specific words featured and built in WordWorld
- Children in disadvantaged households where English is a second language showed gains in phonemic awareness, as well as oral vocabulary and reading words featured in WordWorld
Here's a Peek at WordWorld!
Want It: Please visit PBSKids.org for information on show times in your area. Also, WordWorld is now available for download on iTunes! WordWorld products can be purchased at Target, Toys R Us, and Celebrate Express.
This contest is closed. Congratulations to the winner, Blakesmom! Winner has been emailed and has 48 hours to contact me.

through its innovative approach of immersing viewers in a word-rich place, where things spell out the objects they represent, WordWorld aims to fascinate children with words and to inspire a love of words and reading. Featuring loveable, silly characters called WordFriends who embark on adventures in a world of words, WordWorld encourages preschoolers to see words as their friends, too. -- regnod(at)yahoo(d0t)com

I learned that the curriculum of WordWorld is designed to introduce, support and foster emergent literacy skills in children ages three to five. The curriculum draws from four skill sets critical for young children’s emergent literacy: print awareness, phonological sensitivity and letter knowledge, comprehension (including vocabulary development) and socio-emotional skills. Word World is a terrific show. Thank you for the chance to win.

The Pig is a star, a hansome, fantastic chef with it's own cooking show. Except, it's not allowed to eat the food,. Cook the food but don't eat the food~that's hard.
(To me that's weird)!
( so that fat pig charactor is encourage/not allowed to eat? What does that teach children? To be anorexic & have eating disorders?)
They did not have a contact us button in order to comment !
I do not want to enter.
People we really need to watch closely the infulences of some of these cartoons.
I mean why not have the Pig eat & cook with herbs & veggies & low fats healthy meals?
The not letting the PIG eat is just offensive & would teach the worn g message to kids.
