So...you wanna be a review blogger?
The most emailed question that I get--almost on a daily basis is some version of "How can I review products on my blog?" So, I have been thinking of creating a document that I can email to every person that asks, but then I thought--why not just blog about it? That way, everyone can read about it! What I decided to do is basically a series of posts {I'm thinking once a week} on blogging, how to become a review blogger and tips on what to do once you start. I need your input though so what I want to do today is ASK YOU: WHAT DO YOU WANT TO KNOW? Leave me a comment or email me with the questions that you have and I will do my best to answer all of them in my posts throughout the weeks.I will warn though--I am NOT an expert! Seriously, I do not have all the answers and I am basically learning as I go. I will try to help in any way that I can though!

I am definately interested in reading your series of posts. I would love to get into this on my blog but I don't know where to start. My top question would be how do I get my followers up? Also how do you go about finding sponsors that will have you do reviews or giveaways?

I guess the most obvious question would be how do you start getting companies to supply you with products for review?

Yeah!! I have always been wondering how to review products and just have fun with my blog in the process. So how do I get started? What is your best tip on doing a GREAT review?
July 7, 2009 10:05 AM
Great idea! I could have used a how-to when I started!

How/Where do you get the products your reviewing? How did you network your site to gain review opportunities?

This could be a very interesting discussion.
I'm not a review blogger, and I don't plan to be, but I'd like to know this: do you ever post negative reviews? How do you handle a review request if you don't think the product is of good quality?

what a great idea for posts to your blog!!! I have always been curious about this, but for the time being, just enjoying writing my blogs : ) Would love to eventually learn how to get into reviews as well. Any info would be great - thanks!

So modest - you are an amazing review blogger, I love reading your reviews and it's obvious how much work goes into each one. Anything you can share, I'll be happy to learn.

Do you know how many times I have been asked this very question? You go, girl. I'm gonna start sending them to you. Ha!

LOL, I remember being one of those emails!
The one thing I wish I had known was the time it would consume! Seriously its a job and eats more hours then my paycheck job!

Any advice on companies to avoid? Best way to explain a negative about products?
How to get readers and enteries to your giveaways? :)
I have been doing a few giveaways, have 167 followers and I barely get 20-40 enteries and that's linking my giveaway up all over the place.
I don't mind the work, but would prefer if it would YIELD some commenters :D

I have been doing reviews and giveaways on my own blog, but I am always looking to improve and learn more!

How much information is enough? What is too much? What does the perfect review look like?

I would really like to know how to get the products to review, do I have to contact the actual company,or is there one place I can sign up to get to do reviews?
I'm new to blogging, but I LOVE trying out new stuff, so this is what I'd really like to be blogging about!

Here's what I am interested in...
I noticed some blogs have "sister blogs" to do joint contests with... how can I get another blog to do this with?
July 7, 2009 11:54 PM
i would love this idea- i am just starting out and am already reviewing some books, but would like to add other stuff and get more tarffic to my site via giveaways, so that would be a topic too (side topic, sidetrack off review topic?)
when you want to add mroe than just your own thoughts, it's hard to find how to do stuff...

I'm looking forward to your post! I'll be doing my first review & giveaway from Tropical Traditions (organic coconut oil) soon! I've actually contacted the company myself to the above questions. I'm interested in learning how to do other giveaways, more followers, etc.

I am really looking forward to learning about this -- I am possibly interested in doing reviews, but it does sound like a lot of work and I don't know if it's possible to turn some down without losing others - that is my concern.

I just started a beauty/healthy living on a budget review and giveaway blog (http://livewellspendwell.com) and I'd love to know how you made the connections with the bigger name companies to get free products to review and give away, and also how you drive so much traffic to your site.
:-)
Thanks for the input!!

I would love to know anything you are willing to share. I am just starting my blog and would love to make it bigger and offer more. How do you advertise your blog? What are some good tips of things to do or not to do when you are just starting out? Looking forward to reading more about this.

I just want to know was there a time where you had a hard time coming up with a name for your blog? Right now I run my site of sahm's making money online (http://sahmof3islove.webs.com) and I want a better name as well as get in to reviewing products.
Please let me know how I can do this and take a look at my site if your interested:)

i am definately interested in doing this! Cant wait to get some good tips. I would just want to know where to start? Do you have to have a ton of followers first for companies to want to supply you? Or a certain # of hits a day, etc....Thanks for doing this!! :)

Thank you to everyone for submitting your questions! I will get to all of them in the next few weeks as I start writing the series. : )
