Back-to-School Breakfast: Crockpot Oatmeal Recipe

Tuesday, September 01, 2009 Posted by Jolly Mom

There's nothing like a warm bowl of oatmeal to start the morning and it's even better when all you do is throw all of the ingredients in the Crockpot the night before! This is a perfect, healthy way for kids to start the school day!

Ingredients:
2 cups steel cut oats (not instant or rolled oats)
8 cups water
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
2 apples, peeled and diced
1 cup raisins

Directions:
Grease the inside of Crockpot. Put all ingredients inside Crockpot and mix well. Cover and cook on low for 8 hours. Stir before serving. You can add sliced bananas, chopped walnuts, or a sprinkle of brown sugar when done!

Yield: 6 servings

I'm awed that it didn't turn into a giant cookie and/or oatmeal soap.

I need a new crockpot. Mine died. Sad. I can't try this.

I'm definitely going to try this! We just started back to school this week and my mornings have been crazy. Can you find steel cut oats at the grocery store? Never heard of them.

I found a ton of Steel Cut Oats at Earth Fare. It is our local organic super market.
