{semi} Homemade Doughnuts Recipe--Sinfully Delicious!
I don't know why I keep torturing myself making treats that I can't eat, but today I made Mike and Lucas some homemade doughnuts. I think they earned me Mom and Wife of the Year awards. Both boys were so happy--especially Mike who enjoyed them watching the football game. I can't tell you how EASY these are to make and how delicious. Yes. I cheated and I ate a bite or two. Anyhow, don't freak out at the thought of making homemade doughnuts--these are semi-homemade doughnuts. They literally take minutes to make. How? Refrigerated canned biscuits. Don't tell anyone though because whoever you serve these to will think you are the next Martha Stewart or Betty Crocker. Seriously.

Semi-homemade Doughnuts
Ingredients:
1 can of large biscuits {not the flaky layers type}
1 cup of sugar
2 Tbsp of cinnamon
Directions:
1. Fill pan with oil {about half an inch up the side or enough to cover half of the doughnut} and turn heat to medium high. Let oil heat up for a few minutes--you want the oil nice and hot.
2. While the oil is heating up, open up canned biscuits and separate. Slightly flatten each biscuit.
3. Using a circle cutter {I use an apple corer. You can use anything small and round--like a bottle cap or small cookie cutter, etc}, cut a circle out of the center of each biscuit. Don't throw these away--these doughnut holes can be fried up too!
4. In a large freezer bag, mix together sugar and cinnamon. Set aside.
5. Once the oil is hot, drop in half of your doughnuts and STAY RIGHT THERE! Everything moves VERY FAST at this point. They only take about a minute on each side--if that. Once the doughnuts are lightly browned on one side, flip over and repeat. Remove from oil and let drain on paper towels. Repeat with the other half of your doughnuts.

6. Once they have cooled slightly, put one doughnut into the freezer bag, close, and lightly toss with cinnamon sugar mixture. Place on a platter and repeat with each doughnut. Make sure you only do this one doughnut at a time and that you lightly shake the bag.
Tip: You can also use powdered sugar, icing, sprinkles, and more as toppings. Get creative! These are fun and sinfully delicious!

I have not made these in forever. We used to make them when we were camping. They are one of my favorites. Thanks to you, I want some of them NOW!! I guess that we will have them tomorrow for snack.
My aunt also makes something like this but she flattens out the biscuit and puts a little apple pie filling in them then fries them and dusts them with powdered sugar. YUMMY!!

MMMMM!!! These look really good... I have the McCormick grinder with Cinnamon/Sugar and I bet that would be really good on it too. Plus I have some special sugar that I use on the top of my muffins and cupcakes... that would work too... Oh, Piera you've got me thinking!!
