Spreading Smucker’s Traditions Contest {Gift Basket Giveaway}

Saturday, September 26, 2009 Posted by Piera Jolly

Smuckers, a company that I love, is having an awesome contest right now that I thought you guys would love to know about.

From now until October 12th, Smuckers invites you to share your special family memories and recipes in the second annual “Spreading Smucker’s Traditions” contest. One grand prize winner will win a five day, four night family trip for eight to Walt Disney World Resort where they can create new family memories. Four runner up winners will win $100 gift baskets. What a fun way to put those recipes to good use! To enter and learn more about the contest, please visit www.smuckers.com.

To enter, consumers are asked to share an original family recipe that incorporates at least ¼ cup of Smucker’s jams, jellies, preserves, or fruit butter and the story behind how their recipe makes family celebrations special. The recipe must have been passed down for at least two generations or is currently being passed on to a second generation, and needs to include names of all family members involved in the sharing of the recipe. Entries will be accepted from August 26 through October 12, 2009. Contest finalist recipes will be selected and scored on taste, creativity, ease of preparation, appearance and nutritional balance, while the essays will be scored on relevance to theme, creative expression, and clarity. After the submission phase, an online vote will determine which of five finalist recipes will win the grand prize. For Official Rules and entry forms, visit www.smuckers.com.

We love Smuckers products in my home. We pretty much exclusively buy their reduced sugar jellies. The other day Smuckers sent us a lovely gift basket filled with a bunch of their products to try out. All I can say is YUM! Check it out:

This contest is closed. Congratulations to the winner, jsc123!

    My favorite food to make with Smuckers are Rosenmunnar, a Swedish butter cookie that you put a thumb print in and fill with jam. They turn out really light and the jam gets glossy and chewy. I also use Smuckers jams as a glaze for ham - really good!

    My most memorable family get together was a 4th of July when I had went into the state my daughter lives. She had knee surgery and I was going to help out. At my son's Bash on the 4th, I tripped on a cracked sidewalk, bruised my knee and had to share ice bags with my daughter. It is hilarious now.

    My most memorable family get-together was when my grandfather was still alive. The entire family would get together Christmas Eve and exchange gifts. My grandfather had spent the entire year thinking about the grandchildren and what kind of movies we like and would then pick one out for each of us and record them off TV for our gifts. It wasn't the most expensive or the biggest gifts...but none of us ever cared. Even at young ages, we knew how much thought and time he put into those tapes...I still have a few and will one day share them with my son! Thanks for the chance. bekki1820cb@gmail.com

    Our most memorable family vacation would have to be when we went to Arizona this last Christmas. Everything was great until the drive home...when our car broke down in the middle of nowhere, and it took us an extra 6 days to get it fixed and get home. My favorite way to incorporate jam, jelly or preserves into a meal is at breakfast. I love Smucker's strawberry preserves on my pancakes, or waffles, or stirred into my oatmeal or farina, or spread on hot muffins. Also use Smucker's grape jelly on my toast and English muffins. We love Smucker's!

    My favorite tradition is the Christmas Eve get-together. On Christmas Day, the kids split up to go to in-laws, etc., but Christmas Eve is for this family.

    ■What is your favorite way to incorporate jelly, jam or preserves into a meal?

    I love to make what my family calls "grandma's meatballs"... it was a favorite meatball recipe that my grandma made all the time that included smuckers jelly in the recipe.

    Well, I've always loved to decorate for Christmas, and since it is so much work, I like to start early. Over the years it has gotten earlier and earlier, so that now it's a tradition to take down Halloween decoration and put up Christmas. All my friends and family look forward to me decorating early so they can tease me, but they enjoy two full months of trees and lights at our house!

    My favorite recipe is from my Mom who got it out of a newspaper in 1948-Nut Bread! It's basically quick bread with loads of chopped walnuts-the best! Thanks!
