Complete Post Natal Workout: Bounce Back Fast After Pregnancy! {Review & Giveaway}

Monday, November 02, 2009 Posted by Jolly Mom

After Lucas was born, all I could think about was getting back into shape---especially my stomach area, which was flabby and weak. The truth is that two years later, I am still trying to figure that out. Recently, I had the opportunity to test out an exercise DVD called, Bounce Back Fast! Post Natal Core Conditioning by Helene Byrne, which is truly amazing. If you've just had a baby and are looking for the perfect workout--this is it.

Helene Byrne, founder of BeFit-Mom, is a nationally recognized prenatal and postpartum fitness expert. Helene has over twenty years of experience in the fitness industry. A former professional dancer, she holds a BFA from the Boston Conservatory and is an ACE (American Council on Exercise) certified Personal Trainer. Her fitness experience runs the gamut from group fitness and private training, to Pilates, yoga, injury rehabilitation, and special populations. The birth of her son inspired her to specialize in prenatal and postpartum fitness and exercise.

The truth is that I've only been doing the DVD for about a week--even though I have had it for over a month {I know, I know--my fault obviously and not the dvd's}. However, what I can tell you from the short time that I've been doing it is that the DVD is a true core workout that pulls from the best--Pilates, yoga, and dance. If you do this workout, you will have a stronger core and a leaner stomach. No doubt about it. What I love about the DVD is that it has two postpartum workouts. One to be used within days of delivery, which helps restore and heal the body. The second being the workout that whips you back into shape. I also have to say that I love that the women in the DVD are actual postpartum moms and the moves are very easy to follow, which is a must in my book {I am not the most coordinated person around-lol}.

Both workout programs utilize an exercise resistance band, which is actually included free inside the package! I'm sure many of you have used resistance bands--if you haven't they are so simple to use and really increase the effectiveness of the workout. The best part about resistance bands is that you adjust the intensity to fit your fitness level.

The Workouts
The first workout, “Gentle First Moves” offers safe, restorative exercises that can be started just days after giving birth. The program:
  • Speeds healing from labor and delivery
  • Relieves discomfort
  • Gently stretches tight, sore muscles
  • Protects vulnerable joints and ligaments
  • Starts flattening and firming up postpartum “jelly-belly” right away
  • Introduces post natal abdominal techniques that the second workout expands upon
The second workout, “Bounce Back Fast!” builds off the first program and provides a more challenging, total-body workout that:
  • Systematically strengthens all four layers of the abdominal wall
  • Flattens the abdomen and improves body contours quickly
  • Shortens abdominal musculature
  • Develops deep core strength and dynamic stability
  • Realigns and lengthens the spine
  • Repairs abdominal separation
  • Restores pelvic floor muscles
  • Improves neuromuscular coordination
  • Develops functional balance throughout the body
  • Builds upper body strength for lifting and carrying
  • Speeds postpartum weight loss
Plus, if you suffered from abdominal separation--there's an entire alternate workout that features special exercise modifications for you!

The DVD is also chock full of excellent special features that provide in-depth information on postpartum issues that all new moms need and want to know more about. For example, you'll find information about the challenges of restoring the body after pregnancy and childbirth, abdominal separation {what it is, how to test for it, activities that should be avoided and which are safe, and much more}, info about pelvic floor reconditioning, including the "no-fail" method of learning Kegal exercises, and more! This DVD is a wonderful resource for new moms--providing education, healing, and fitness. LOVE it and I can't wait to use it after I have my next baby!

Want It: Bounce Back Fast DVD retails for $21.95 and can be purchased at BeFitMom.com.

This contest is closed. Congratulations to the winner, Abby!

I like the 10 Fitness Tips...especially #4 - Push your living room furniture to the side, turn on your portable music player, put in your earplugs, and groove to your favorite dance music. You’ll have loads of fun, get a terrific aerobic workout, and burn calories at the same time. I can so see me doing this :)
