Hess Toy Truck Celebrates a 45 Year Holiday Tradition with the Debut of the 2009 Hess Race Car and Racer {Review}
Every year, the race is on to get that year's Hess Toy Truck. It is a tradition that has been around since 1964--every year Hess Corporation debuts a new truck to add to the collection. Hess Toy Truck is actually one of the longest running toy brands on the market! What's unique about this year is that instead of a truck, Hess Corporation is featuring a Race Car. A car hasn't been featured since 1993 when the Patrol Car was first introduced and went on to become the fastest selling Hess Toy Truck ever.

Hess Corporation sent me the 2009 Race Car and Racer to review and it blew me away when I realized all of the features!
About the Race Car and Racer:
It features a touch-release canopy compartment that opens to reveal a hidden compartment with surprise cargo – a smaller, faster race car powered by a pull-back racing motor and its own set of working lights. Basically, there is a smaller car within the large race car. You can see it in the video below.
Race Car
29 lights with an optional flashing mode
3 realistic sound features (ignition, acceleration and horn)
Alloy-look racing wheels
Chrome detailed rear view mirrors and air vents
Low profile headlights (a first for a Hess Toy Truck)
Rear spoiler
Canopy compartment with a spring-release hood that opens with a touch
2 Energizer ‘C’ batteries {included}
Small Racer:
15 lights
Pull-back racing motor
Alloy-look racing wheels
Chrome detailed rear view mirrors and vents
Low profile headlights
Rear spoiler
1 Energizer ’AA’ battery {included}

What impressed me the most is the quality. The Hess Toy Truck Race Car and Racer is a collectible--a toy that kids will pass on to their kids. And so on. This is not just a gift for kids either--the guys will love it too! Mike flipped out when he saw the Race Car and Racer and now wants to start his own Hess Toy Truck collection.

See It In Action:

My mom always got my little brother one to play with and one to put away to save as a collectible.
She is now continuing the tradition with my oldest son, though I didn't ask if she was going to do it with the 2 month old.
I saw them in an antique shop selling for 60 and I think that was one's from the 90's I think.
My eldest is going to LOVE them this year. Race cars, vroom vroom.

hess has the best quailty/fun built toys. Last year we saw the hess truck on the tv commercails and searched to find the nearest hess station near us which was 4 miles but oh so worth the drive to get one and we got our grandson the hess truck with the additional loader and it is the best toy I ever saw. It has all sorts of functions and it is built to last no cheap parts at all. He loves it and we do to you can't help to play with it too its so realistic. He uses rock salt in a big cardboard box to scoop up and lift it into the back of the dump trunk just to watch it dump back out with a simple touch of a button and then you have all those lights & sounds to enjoy too. Each year we wait in excitement to see what will be the new toy for the year and I so excited to see this review you offer on it. I can't wait to get this for him so he can add to the collection. Years ago when my nephews were little we bought them the hess 18 wheeler while we were in the navy in charleston south carolina and I wish now I had bought one just to put away for grandchildren I might of had not knowing then it would of made a perfect vintage collection for my grandson. They are few & far between for sale on ebay but very costly now which at the time 2 years ago were $19.99. Thanks for the heads up on the reviw of there availability to buy soon. happy holidays

We've already gotten the race cars for our grandson the day they went on sale!!
I LOVE the fact that Hess includes the batteries with the toys - that is so wonderful so that the kids can play with them on Christmas morning!
They are well made and will last forever!!
