Kroger Personal Finance is now offering an “accident only” pet insurance policy for $9.95 per month per pet!
If you follow my blog, you probably know that we have a dog--Aries. She is a chocolate lab. She is out first baby. To us, she is a beloved member of our family. We want the best for her. Just like we do for Lucas. Like me, most of the nation’s 70 million pet owners, pets are family too. And when pets get sick or injured, most of us are willing to spend almost whatever it takes to get them back on all four feet. But all pet owners know that veterinary care does not come cheap, as a matter of fact, according to the American Pet Products Association (APPA) vet bills last year in the U.S. topped $11 billion!

I remember one unsuspecting afternoon a few years ago, Aries was outside playing fetch with the neighbor. I was watching--amazed at how incredibly accurate Aries is at catching the frisbee when all of a sudden I see her trip and go flying across the yard. The yelping and crying that came from her was heart wrenching. I ran to her and quickly inspected her to find that one of her toes was hanging on by a thread. I frantically took her inside and tried to put together a makeshift bandage and got her into the car. I was shaking and nervous. I was all alone and needed to get her to the vet. When I got to the vet, they told me it would cost $1,200 to get her fixed up. When I told them that I didn't have that much--I could pay half now and half later. They told me SORRY BUT NO. I had to leave--with Aries limping, bleeding, and crying. I finally found a vet that was willing to put me on a payment plan. However, not everyone is that lucky. That's why I was so excited when I found out that Kroger Personal Finance (KPF) is now offering an “accident only” pet insurance policy for $9.95 per month per pet.

Kroger Personal Finance® (KPF), a Kroger joint venture that brings together a wide array of quality financial products and services from preferred providers for Kroger customers, is making pet health insurance information available in the check lanes of more than 2,400 supermarkets operated by Kroger, the nation’s largest traditional grocery store operator. At $9.95 per month, Kroger's pet insurance allows pet owners to have some peace of mind knowing that in an emergency situation, they won't need to worry about coming up with unbudgeted veterinary expense. This would have come in handy that horrible afternoon a few years ago.
If you're a pet owner and are interested in pet health insurance, make sure to inquire at your local Kroger or online. Many pet insurance plans are available--starting at $9.95. For those of you that don't have a Kroger, the insurance is available online and at most of the Kroger banner stores – Kroger, Fred Meyer, Ralph’s, King Soopers, etc.

Kroger Personal Finance provided me with a $25 gift card for the pet in my life, as well as a gift card for one of my readers. All opinions expressed in this review are my own and not influenced in any way by anyone. Please refer to this site's Terms of Use for more information.

Oddly enough, I was just looking at this yesterday! LOL! I have a Kroger 1-2-3 card and am on Kroger Personal Finance regularly.
I think the basic pet insurance would be a good value, since we want to take care of our babies when they are sick, too. And when they are well!
Kroger Personal Finance is great to deal with!

I would go for the value insurance. I have spent literally $1,000's on pets, I can never say no and I don't know why I don't have insurance. I spent over $1,800 on a little bunny alone and I have 12 chickens, 2 dogs, 2 cats a rabbit and a horse (for Christmas). Thanks for the opportunity!

I'd pick the Value plan. You can plan for the cost of basic pet care but accidents or significant illnesses can be really hard to pay for. I think you don't realize till it happens to you how much it can costs. This plan is a good value for the coverage.

The "Basic" plan is the best plan for my pet. It's worth it to me to spend just a few more dollars compared to the "Value" plan should I ever need to cover a major accident. I tend to run with my dog daily and you never when something unexpected might happen. I want to be covered for any situation.

I like the Preferred Plan. It may be a bit pricier than the rest, but it covers EVERYTHING under accidents and illnesses. There is nothing sadder than losing a family pet to an accident or illness. A lot of families choose to put their pets down because they cannot afford to pay the health/hospital/surgery bills. But with this plan, all those expenses are taken care of and a family does not have to lose a pet due to finances. It is well worth the cost. I love Kroger and what they have to offer. Thanks for the giveaway.

The Value Plan might be best for us as we have both a cat and a dog and this looks most economical.
Thanks for the chance

The Value plan looks like a great plan for someone like my family. My dog is healthy and is vaccinated and taken to the Vet for check-ups regularly but sometimes things happen that you can't control. Accidents might happen but what about major illnesses, we wouldn't have the money to be able to pay for all the care so something like this is actually a really good thing to have for our family. Thank you so much for giving us this website because most other plans are way too expensive.

I think Senior Comprehensive would be good for our 10 year old dog. It's just a few dollars more than Senior Core for more coverage. Thanks. utgal2004[at]yahoo[dot]com

I think the Basic pet insurance would meet most of our needs. I advise folks to check out some form of pet insurance when they first get a pet, I sure we had- some $3000 later!

One of the reasons I don't have a dog is the expense of veterinary care. The value plan at just 20 bucks a month would make owning a dog a lot more affordable.

I would love to have the Value plan, because accidents do happen with pets, and that is covered but so is illness which also happens!

I think the basic pet insurance would be the best for us, however right now it's not in the budget.

If I picked one plan it would be the Premium. I have 2 dogs who are pretty healthy but they are getting older and will probably start needing more Vet visits as they age.

I would pick the value plan because it would cover most unexpected expenses, but is still economical. Thanks so much! pamelashockley(AT)netscape(DOT)net

I would be most interested in the Preferred option because it is the most comprehensive and covers accidents, illnesses, and routine care. Aitmama {{ta}} gmail {{tod}} com

I would say the value insurance would be the one I would be most interested because it covers a little of everything for a low monthly cost.

The Accident Value package looks good. You can't plan for the kind of expense you would incur if your pet needed emergency care due to an accident, so this would be very helpful.
December 31, 2009 9:30 AM
I would be most interested in the Value plan because it is the cheapest coverage for illnesses. Honestly, I wish they had a plan JUST for illnesses like they have just for accidents. My cats are all inside and never go outside, so accidents are not really an issue.
