Our Christmas Traditions. Extra Entries on the Here Comes Santa Claus Giveaways
One of my favorite things about the holidays are the traditions. Old and new. When Mike and I got married, we really wanted to start our own, new Christmas traditions that we would honor and celebrate every year. For instance, every year on Christmas Eve morning we go out to breakfast. I remember, the first Christmas after Lucas was born--he was almost 5 months old and we went to eat breakfast at a local restaurant. We sat him in a high chair and ordered eggs, waffles, bacon--a feast. Finally, the food comes and we are arranging it all on our table. In one split second--while we weren't looking--Lucas grabbed a strip of bacon and had shoved part of it in his mouth LOL. Needless to say, at 5 months--he was not eating solids. What was really hysterical is that as we are trying to pry the bacon from his teeny hands, he would squeeze harder--so hard that he shook and crumbled the entire strip of bacon. It was hilarious!

Another tradition of ours is one that many people also do, which is to open a gift on Christmas Eve. After we celebrate Noche Buena at my parents house, we come home and open one gift at home. We do this every year and I look forward to it every year! Mike doesn't like to do it because he likes to "save up" all of his gifts for Christmas morning LOL. Can you tell that we are like children?
On Christmas morning, we always light a fire--even if it is 70 degrees which in Georgia happens way too often! While one of us lights the fire, the other starts the French Vanilla coffee brewing and gets some biscuits in the oven. We bring the biscuits and coffee into the family room and let Aries--our chocolate Lab--open {or eat} her gifts first. After that, it's GAME ON! LOL To be honest, this will probably change a little as Lucas gets older. I imagine the kiddo will want to run downstairs and get started with the gifts much faster than we normally do!

My favorite Christmas tradition though is that we go to a Stone Mountain Christmas every year. It is an amazing event--there are fireworks, a parade, cookie decorating with Mrs. Claus, pictures with Santa, fire pits, hot chocolate, and smores, Christmas shows, carolers, a Snow Angel, and lots and lots of Christmas lights. It is a magical experience that is so beautiful and fun. I am so excited about this year--Lucas is older and will be able to really enjoy it.

Check Out Time to Play Mag Before You Shop For Toys This Holiday Season!

Can you believe Thanksgiving is done and over with?! With that, the holiday shopping season has officially started! Time for the fun to begin! I have to say that for me--the holidays started a bit early at the Time to Play Holiday Showcase in NYC that I attended in October. During the event, Time to Play Mag announced their 16 Most Wanted Toys of the season.

Out of all of the events that I have been to--this one was hands down my favorite. I hate saying that because I have been lucky to have been invited to several wonderful events, but this one was really special to me. Not only because Christmas is my favorite time of the year. Not just because I love toys and getting to pretend that I am a kid again. This trip was special to me because of the people I got to meet--people I have known online, but have never met face to face. Bloggers talk a lot about the friendships they make with other bloggers. What I don't see talked about as often are the friendships you make with the people that you work with. I work with many pr that I can honestly call my friends and I got to meet several of them at the Time to Play Holiday Showcase {you know who you are--Marissa, Elise & the rest of the Litzky Ladies}. Not to mention the amazing bloggers I got the chance to finally meet: Audrey, Victoria, Amy, Colleen, Mariana, Troy, and Ana. All people that I can now call friends.

Finally, I got to meet two wonderful dads, bloggers, and kids at heart--Jim and Chris--from Time to Play Mag. I want to tell you about them today because not only are they awesome people, but their website--Time to Play Mag--is a plethora of valuable information on everything TOYS. Their site is valuable to moms year round, but during this time of the year--it is priceless!

Time to Play Mag provides honest and thorough reviews on all of the HOT toys of the year. They are known as industry experts and there's a reason why--these guys know their stuff. They and their team have over a 100 years of combined experience in the toy industry! I sat down and talked to Jim Silver during the blogger dinner the night before the Time to Play event and what struck me the most about both him and Chris--is that they are so passionate about what they do. Their enthusiasm for what they do is contagious. They care about kids--their own and ours. They have hearts of gold. When you get a chance, promise me you will stop by Time to Play Mag and check them out! Make sure to follow them on Twitter and keep up to date on all of their giveaways and toy recommendations. You won't be sorry--I promise.
Check out this video of Jim and Chris during the Time to Play press conference. It is pretty interesting--in it they talk about the impact {or lack of} the economy has had on how parents shop for their kids and the effect it has had on toy companies.

Step 2 Fresh Market Kitchen Review and GIVEAWAY! {Here Comes Santa}
Last Christmas, we bought Lucas the Step 2 Lifestyle Kitchen as his big present and it was a huge hit! It has provided so many countless hours of fun, pretend playtime for Lucas and honestly--for me as well. In my opinion, every child--boys and girls--should have a play kitchen. They provide children with a creative outlet and a way for kids to model mom and dad. Not to mention all of the learning opportunities to be had! Learning about food, measurements, cooking, counting, colors, and so much more! Recently, I had the opportunity to try out a brand new kitchen to the Step 2 line up--the Fresh Market Kitchen and it is a-m-a-z-i-n-g!

The Fresh Market Kitchen is not just a kitchen. It is a full service kitchen, a market, and a dining area, which provides children with 360-degree play! The kitchen, like all Step 2 kitchens is extremely detailed and very realistic. It has a stainless steel refrigerator, oven and microwave, a large sink area, a "cutting board" area, and a stove top. The refrigerator, oven and microwave provide lots of pretend play opportunities and acts as storage for all of the pots, pans, and food. The stove top burners are awesome--not only do they look really cool, but when you turn the knobs--they sizzle, make boiling sounds, and light up. One of the coolest things about the look of the kitchen is the copper range hood, which has an actual working light. It just takes the kitchen to a whole other level design wise. So modern and so realistic!

On the other side of the kitchen is a countertop eating area where you can place a couple of stools for kids to "eat" all of the food they just "cooked". So cute! Now to my favorite part of the Fresh Market Kitchen--the market area! The Market has a see-thru baker's display case that provides lots of storage for food items and it looks just like something you would see in a real bakery! I plan on making Lucas a bunch of felt sweet treats to fill up his bakery--I can't wait! If you're going to have a market, then you also have to have a cash register. Of course, Step 2 would not skip that so there is a working register that really calculates and it has a scanner that lights up and beeps like a real scanner! The Market area also has loads of shelving and produce bins. This kitchen has some serious storage space, which I really welcome and appreciate. Plus, it even comes with a reusable, eco friendly grocery tote so kids can learn about conservation and living waste-free right from the start--gotta love that!

The Fresh Market Kitchen comes with a 47-piece accessory set, which includes 2 place settings, pot & pan, stainless steel utensils & strainer, salt & pepper shakers, 20-piece play food assortment, and cash register with credit card and key.

I honestly could not believe my eyes when I saw it all put together. My first thought--"I wish I was a kid again!" This is one of the coolest kitchens around and would make a more than fabulous gift this holiday season!
Also, Step 2 is running a really wonderful contest right now that you should check out!To celebrate creativity in the kitchen for both parents and kids, Step2 is announcing a national contest that will award one grand-prize of a new dream kitchen suite from Frigidaire, including a refrigerator, dishwasher, over the counter microwave, and oven, as well as a new Step2 toy kitchen of their choice. The “Step2 Creative Kids in the Kitchen Contest” is asking families to submit an essay of 250 words or less on how they foster creativity when cooking and have fun in the kitchen together. Second place prize is a Step2 kitchen of their choice, while one third place winner will receive a $50 gift certificate good toward any toy on step2.com. To enter or for more information, click HERE!

Want It: The Fresh Market Kitchen retails for $199.99 and can be purchased online or at major toy retailers.

Christmas Books and Movies You Don't Want To Miss!
If you follow my blog at all, you have probably guessed that I LOVE Christmas! Everything about it makes me happy. As a mom, I want Lucas to feel and know the magic of this wonderful season and what better way to share that than with some special Christmas books and fun holiday movies?! Just last week, I posted about a Story Time Advent Calendar I came up with and my plan is to read Lucas a new Christmas book every night starting tomorrow to count down the days until the 25th. It will be a great way for us to spend some quality time as a family celebrating the holiday season. I recently received two new Christmas books by Scholastic that I just love so much and want to share with you today!

THE NUTCRACKER AND THE MOUSE KING: On Christmas Eve, Godfather Drosselmeier has arrived with gifts of marvel and enchantment for his young godchildren. Goddaughter Marie falls in love a bewitching nutcracker doll and claims him as her own. Yet when the clock strikes midnight, something terribly amazing happens to Godfather’s handcrafted toys…they come alive. Marie is swept off her feet on an incredible journey with the Nutcracker in this astonishing classic story by E.T.A. Hoffman. Critically acclaimed artist Gail de Marcken’s stunning illustrations bring this spellbinding tale to life. MSRP: $18.99

THE CHRISTMAS MAGIC: Far, far North, when the nights are longest and the stars shine brightest, Santa begins to prepare for his big night of giving. He gathers his reindeer, feeds them parsnips and berries, and polishes his bells and his sled. Then lovingly, he chooses toys for every child in the world. For Santa loves them all, and he knows what each child at heart wants most. Then, with the thrum of magic that makes reindeers fly, he spreads the Christmas joy and warmth throughout the world--as he always has -- and always will until the end of time. From best-selling author Lauren Thomas, and Caldecott Honor Artist Jon J Muth MSRP: $16.99
Both of these are beautifully illustrated, large books that would make special gifts for a child. My recommendation is to pick up one or both before Christmas so that you can enjoy reading it throughout the holidays. Or, for those of you {like me} that like to open one gift on Christmas Eve--these books would be the perfect gift to give to your kids to open the night before Christmas. Tuck a pair of PJs and one of these books together in a gift bag or box and you have a beautiful gift!
Not long ago, I blogged about one of our new favorite Christmas movies, Gotta Catch Santa Claus. This is such a cute movie that the entire family will enjoy!

Gotta Catch Santa Claus will be making its TV premiere on December 15th for ABC's 25 DAYS OF CHRISTMAS programming, but trust me--you and your kids will want to own this movie! You can get it at Amazon.com for $16.49 and FREE shipping!

SYNOPSIS: Funky music, holiday magic and a supersonic sleigh are all wrapped up in this CGI–animated family adventure starring William Shatner as the voice of Santa! Trevor is a true believer in the holiday spirit, so his skeptical best friend, Veronica, challenges him to show the world actual proof that Santa is real. Trevor and his friends embark on the adventure of a lifetime to catch Santa in action and reveal the true magic of Christmas. But they’ve got to find Santa before LeFreeze — a dim-witted monster who is carrying a serious 100-year-old grudge — and his snowman minions put Christmas on ice forever! Join the race to save Christmas in Gotta Catch Santa Claus, the jolly, jammin’, modern-day holiday classic destined to become a family tradition!

Mickey Mouse's Magic Choo Choo Train {Review}
M-I-C-K-E-Y M-O-U-S-E. Meeska. Mooska. Mickey! Mouse! What child doesn't love Mickey Mouse? Mickey is a constant in the lives of children. We all--adults included--love him! Lucas has become a huge fan of Playhouse Disney and he just loves Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. Recently, Disney aired a brand new special--Mickey Mouse Clubhouse: Choo Choo Express and launched a new train-inspired toy called, Mickey Mouse's Magic Choo Choo Train Set.

Lucas recently had the opportunity to try out Mickey's Magic Choo Choo and it has been a huge hit around here! The train set comes with 10 pieces of track, 1 car, 2 signs, a crossing gate and a Mickey figure. Just like any train--you put together the tracks and place the train on the track. Switch to "mode 2". Push the button on top of the train car and the train goes around the track. As the train moves, it makes all types of sound effects and Mickey talks and sings.

What's really different about this train set though is that it also lays its own tracks just like in the special--Choo Choo Express! Yes, I know. I thought it was unbelievable too LOL. Basically, the train has two straight track pieces that are magnetized. You place the train cars on top of these two tracks {connect the tracks first}, switch to "magic mode or mode 1", press the button, and the train will begin to move forward. As it moves forward, it picks up the track in front of it and lays it behind. And so on. The magic is, of course, the magnets in the track and under the train car. Shhhhh. Don't tell your kids this though ; )
Now, I will say Mickey's Magic Choo Choo is not without any kinks. I did find that the train does not always seamlessly lay its own tracks. I tried it on three different types of flooring--a thin area rug, berber carpet, and hardwood floors. I found that the train performed the best on the berber carpet and the worst on hardwood floors--maybe the hardwood floors are too slippery? Not really sure, but it's something to keep in mind when buying. However, both Lucas and my niece really love playing with Mickey's Magic Choo Choo Train and I think that most fans of Mickey Mouse will love it too!

Want It: Mickey Mouse's Magic Choo Choo Train Set retails between $30 and $40 {depending on whether you can find a sale} and can be purchased at major toy retailers across the country. You can get it at Toys R Us for $39.99 right now.

HOT Toys and Gifts for the Holidays: Gift Ideas for Girls of All Ages
Today, I want to tell you guys about some wonderful gift ideas for the young girls in your life! Almost all of the products in this post {besides the jewelry} I was first introduced to at the Time to Play Holiday Toys Showcase I attended in October. I fell in LOVE with them there and I am confident that you guys will love them too!

Up first is one of the sweetest dolls I have ever come across in my life--when I saw the Little Mommy Walk & Giggle Doll {pictured above} at the Mattel table at the Time to Play Showcase, I literally flipped out! I haven't had a chance to test her out at home, but I played with her for a long time at the event--partly because I wouldn't let her go LOL. This fully interactive doll can sit, stand, and walk, all by herself! She also loves to play peek-a-boo, "drink" from her bottle, and take her puppy pull toy for a stroll. Includes 60 phrases, sounds, and songs. MSRP: $69.99

Jakks Pacific has seriously become one of my favorite toy brands. They just have so much to offer both boys and girls, but what I love most about them is their commitment to promoting creativity through their Girl Gourmet line of kits. The sweetest trend in food right now? Edible jewelry! The Girl Gourmet Candy Jewel Factory girls customize their own fashionable and fun edible jewelry for them to enjoy or share with their friends. The kit comes with the Oven, 1 Oven Tool, 2 Candy Molds, 1 Plastic Ring Base, 1 Plastic Ring Cover, 1 Plastic Heart Shaped Locket, 2 Packets of Candy Pellets (Pink and Green), 1 Packet of Star Sprinkles, 1 Packet of Rainbow Sprinkles, 1 Packets of Candy String and 1 Instruction Sheet. This set makes up to 30 candy jewels and is sure to be hit among girls! What's better than jewelry and sweets? Not much in my book LOL! What's surprising about this kit is that you can make some really cute jewelry--the kind you may just feel bad eating after you make. I know that when I was a kid I would have loved this set and I think most girls today will too! MSRP: $29.99

The Press Dough! Deluxe Cookie Factory features a giant, Tabletop Cookie Dough Press with a pull out cutting tray and a secret compartment to store the cookie cards. There are six different cookie cards, which slide into the cookie factory to create different dough shapes. You can also shape cookies by using the handheld Magic Cookie Shaper Tool. To shape the cookies, choose one of the six shapes--spiral, shooting star, heart, butterfly, rainbow and sun--and attach it to the Magic Cookie Shaper Tool. Add the dough and press it through. Voila! Pretty, shaped cookies that makes baking easy and fun for kids! You can also use the Magic Cookie Shaper to decorate the cookies--fill with frosting instead of dough, attach one of the two decorating tips, and decorate. The set also includes a rolling pin, spatula, rolling dough cutter, recipe book and a flour shaker. Little Kids sent me this set to review and what I love about it is that you can use store bought cookie dough or your own homemade cookie dough. You're not limited to having to buy any expensive baking sets and refills--just use what you have on hand. Retails for $14.99 at Target and other toy retailers.

Next up are the WowWee Alive Baby Animals. I have never considered keeping a toy of Lucas’ for myself until now. These WowWee Alive pets are so incredible. They are the most adorable stuffed animals I have ever seen. You just want to hug and squeeze them all of the time! I first saw these at the Time to Play Holiday Toys Showcase in New York in October and I couldn’t put it down. Their fur, eyes, and the way they react to you as you handle them make them so life like. Pet and rub their head and back and they each make their own life like sounds that are unique to each animal. I have to say though that if I could change one thing about them is that they do make a mechanical sound. If you lower the volume {by pressing the right ear}, then the mechanical sound kind of goes away too, but I still think this is something that should be improved on. However, the coolest part about these animals is that their eyes and mouths move in such a realistic way. Then if you leave them alone they will sleep, start to snore and then turn off. Or you can even rock them to sleep! These stuffed animals are great for boys or girls (or moms LOL). I have had the chance to play with the husky, the koala bear, and the leopard cub--they are each cute in their own way. There are many animals to choose from like the ones I mentioned plus a lion cub, a baby seal, a panda bear, and so on. Your kids will love these stuffed toys and so will you. WowWee Alive Baby Animals are available at most large toy retailers and retail between $49.99 and $59.99.

One of the hottest toys of the year has to be Printies Design Studio kits. These made it into the Time to Play Most Wanted List, have won numerous awards and I can totally see why! Basically, Prinites are at-home activity kits that allow children to make their own custom stuffed animals. Kids design their stuffed animals online at www.MyPrinties.com and then they PRINT their designs onto special patent-pending Prinites fabric sheets. Yes. You print them yourself onto fabric. Then, tear along the perforated shape and pop out the Printies design, stuff it, and meet your cute new stuffed animal! Pretty cool, huh? I had my concerns at first--like would it eat up all of my ink and how easy was it really? Once I got these at home--I fell in LOVE with them though! You can print these with any inkjet printer and best of all--it does not use any more ink than printing on regular paper. Printies make an excellent gift for the holidays, but they also shine in other areas as well. How about having a Printies birthday party or holiday party? Have your child invite a few friends and let them design and make their own stuffed animals? Another idea is printing them out in black and white--and letting your kids color them in with fabric markers. This way even the younger kids can get in on the fun! For under $20, kids can make six one-of-a-kind stuffed toys!

Last and certainly not least is the new Disney Precious Collections Jewelry. Oh ladies. Your little girls will flip over this jewelry! Granted--it is definitely in the luxe category, but this jewelry will make Cinderella and Snow White fans everywhere swoon with delight. The Disney Precious Collections Jewelry features bracelets, necklaces, and rings made from white and yellow gold and adorned with diamonds and other precious gems. Every piece in the collection is meticulously designed to capture the magic of Disney and the heart of girls everywhere. Of course, this not just children's jewelry--there are many women who are huge Disney fans that would literally flip out over this jewelry! Beautiful.

Personlized Children's DVDs Where YOUR Child is a Co-Star Alongside Dora the Explorer & Diego! AWESOME GIFT!
I am so excited to tell you about a new personalized children's DVD by Kideo that I had the utmost pleasure of trying out for myself recently. When I say personalized--I mean personalized.

As in your child will co-star alongside their favorite pre-school adventurers--Dora the Explorer and Diego! Basically, when you order one of these dvds--you will either mail or upload a headshot of your child. Kideo takes it the rest of the way. They use their patented technology to digitally add in your child's image to a full length Dora and Diego episode called “Dora, Diego and Me”. It doesn't stop there though--in the episode--Dora actually says your child's name several times! I was blown away when I was watching Lucas' new DVD and Dora said "Lucas". LOL.
Honestly, this is hands down one of the coolest things ever! Words cannot express the look on Lucas' face when he saw himself in this DVD alongside Dora and Diego. His entire face just lit up. As you can imagine...he loves this DVD!

Want It: “Dora, Diego and Me” is available now at www.kideo.com for $29.95. Other personalized DVDs available: Barney, Arthur, Spiderman, Care Bears, Precious Moments, and Gregory, Baby Genius!

Episode Synopsis: "Dora, Diego and Me" gives parents and family members an opportunity to send their child on a personalized excursion with new learning experiences at every turn and watch as their little traveler virtually zip lines through the rain forest and water ski up the river to save Baby Jaguar who is stuck at the waterfall.Here's some footage of the actual DVD I received. You can see parts of the episode and how Kideo incoporporated Lucas into the episode.

Disney Pixar's Toy Story Comes To Life: Toy Story Collection Buzz & Woody Action Figures {Review}
The new Toy Story toys are the toys of the year for me--you know--the toys that I would have probably gone to any lengths for Lucas to have under the tree this year. He absolutely LOVES Buzz and Woody, or "Bah Woowee", as he calls them. The Toy Story movies are his favorite and there are finally Toy Story toys that truly live up to the greatness of the film. There are many new toys available from the movie line made by Thinkway Toys, but none are as incredible as the Toy Story Collection Sherriff Woody and Buzz Lightyear. Thanks to Disney Consumer Products we had the awesome chance to try them both out at home!

These toys are exact replicas from the movie and come with a Certificate of Authenticity signed by director of the Pixar Films, John Lassiter. They are so amazing. It’s like you reached through the TV screen during the movie and just plucked them out. No other Buzz and Woody are more authentic than these. You almost wonder if they come to life when no one’s looking. Seriously.

Sherriff Woody is a soft cowboy doll with a pull string and over 50 sayings. The truth is that although Woody is a toy--he is gorgeous--very vintage like in the movie! All the details are there. If you talk to him he responds with various sayings and when you pull his string he says all his great Sherriff Woody catch phrases. He stands 16” tall and even comes with a display stand. My plan is to use a fine tipped permanent black marker and write "Lucas" on the bottom of Woody's boot like the one in the movie says, "Andy".

Buss Lightyear is fully loaded, just like in the movie. He speaks over 60 of his famous movie and space ranger sayings and moves his head back and forth when you press his chest buttons. Buzz will even respond when you talk to him. He is fully poseable with over 32 points of articulation. His helmet opens and closes and his wrist laser lights up and makes sounds. His wings pop out and the lights on the end blink when you press his flying button. He even makes flying sounds when you hold him in a horizontal flying position. And to top it all off, the box he comes in is his spaceship, just like in the movie. This thing is just awesome. No wonder Woody was jealous.

We put Buzz and Woody together and they started talking after one another in response to the other ones voice. It was actually really funny and cute to see them kind of play off one another like that! Mike and I may be even more excited about these toys than Lucas…or maybe not LOL. There are so many other Toy Story toys that you can get like Rex, and RC, even those silly little 3 eyed aliens, but the Toy Story Collection Buzz Lighyear and Sherriff Woody are tops.

Want It: Toy Story Collection Buzz Lightyear and Sherrif Woody can be purchased at major toy retailers across the country. Retail price: $49.99 each at Toys R Us.
