Natural Toothpaste for Kids: Tom's of Maine Silly Strawberry Toothpaste Review {Giveaway: 5 Winners}
Getting kids to brush their teeth is a struggle isn't it? I remember being a kid and I hated brushing my teeth LOL. That's why I made it a point to make teeth brushing a "fun" event with Lucas early on in his life. At 2 years old, I now have a child who doesn't mind too much having his teeth brushed--unless he is teething that is. One thing that we do is get Lucas involved in the actual brushing process. We let him brush his own teeth first so that he feels in control. Then, we finish brushing for him. To keep it fun, we do everything from sing silly brushing songs {that I make up on the spot LOL} to dancing. The point is to keep Lucas giggling. Laughing means he is having fun and fun means healthy pearly whites!

When it comes to toothpaste, we have always used natural toothpaste for Lucas. One company that I love is Tom's of Maine and their Silly Strawberry Toothpaste for kids.

You can get it with Flouride or without. The Fluoride-Free version uses calcium and silica to clean and since it's fluoride-free, you don't have to worry about young kids swallowing the toothpaste. For cavity protection, you can go with the Silly Strawberry Anticavity with Fluoride toothpaste. It features naturally sourced sodium monofluorophosphate as its active ingredient to provide cavity protection, and calcium to clean. It it is the only natural option to carry the ADA Seal of Acceptance!
What I love about Tom's of Maine is that they lay all out for you. Ingredients. They list what's NOT in their products. Total transparency. That means TRUST in my book--something that is hard to come by these days. Of course, Tom's of Maines makes all sorts of natural products--from toothpaste to deodorant to mouthwash and soap. Check them out--you will love Tom's of Maine!
Want It: Buy it for $2.95 at Drugstore.com.

Ever since my first child started brushing we have a deal: he brushes while I count to ten, then I get to brush his teeth while I count to ten. Very. slowly.

My little one LOVES to brush her teeth... so we don't really have a sill routine. We do sing & dance around & I usually fix her hair while she brushes... all of this may appear silly from the outside looking in, who knows!

We used to start the routine off my doing a "Tour De Clocks". We'd take my oldest son around and show him all the main clocks in the house and that it was time for bedtime. He really responded to this and loved clocks. Then we'd follow up by brushing his teeth, and put him to bed. We wouldn't hear a peep out of him after that.

We have made tooth brushing part of the morning and also the bedtime routine. It isn't negotiable. But to make it fun and exciting, we shop for toothbrushes that light up or have fun movie characters on the handles. A new toothpaste with a great flavor adds to the thrill!

I taught my kids to brush their teeth to a modified the wheels on the bus. Instead we sing "The brush in my mouth goes up and down, up and down, up and down. The brush in my mouth goes up and down. All through my mouth. The brush in my mouth goes front and back, front and back, front and back. The brush in my mouth goes front and back. All through my mouth. The dentist he says Brush, Brush, Brush, Brush. The dentist he says Brush, Brush, Brush. All through your mouth." My ten year old still hums it when brushing(so cute).

When mine were really little I would sing the Chipmunk Brushing song from Grease! So true & I still love that song! LOL When they have the slumber party and the little commercial comes on and she starts singing like the chipmunk... I would do that with my kids- LOL I would also sing the old commercial that played, "They call me Yuckmouth, cause I don't brush, and I like my teeth like this..." LOL I can still vividly remember both of those and not sure if my kids were laughing because the songs were cute or "Mom was funny" LOL

When I was 5, my class did a song for our parents about brushing our teeth & I still remember it! So - with my kids, when they hit their "dont wanna brush my teeth!" stage, I would sing this with them, while we brushed together. Some of ti goes : "When you wake up, in the morning at a quarter to 1, you feel like having a little bit of fun - you brush your teeth *chia chia* (x 10)<--- thats a sound effect, it's the closest spelling it I could get. Then you start all over with 'quarter to 2', then 3, 4 etc. The sound effect part is where you brush your teeth vigiourously!

After doing a science project with teeth and soda and seeing how it rotted them away, we have had no trouble getting the kids to brush properly. Guess they want to keep their teeth!

To get my kids excited about brushing their teeth we would sing a song. To the tune of row row your boat. Brush brush brush your teeth brush them twice a day. Up down Up down that is the way. Swish Swish Swish your teeth (give a cup of water) and Spit your cavity creeps away! This works until they are thru second grade.

We have a timer the boys use and got them toothbrushes that sing. Would love to try this natural toothpaste! Love that!

My sweetie is 17 months, so we don't have to work too hard on making it fun -- but we definitely have a ritual. She knows every step in order, of course, and prompts us after each step. She likes to swallow the toothpaste (...strawberry banana....), and tries to get as much as possible from the brush. We brush all surfaces then let her "finish the job".

I have three preschoolers so they enjoy getting the sink ready for their brothers: water poured in cup, brush ready, etc.
It's workin for us now!

I am just starting to look for great kids toothpaste and begin to brush my babies teeth. I think the flavor is a good idea.

I wish I had something fun and exciting to share, but I don't.
I start my kids when they are toddlers with letting them brush their teeth while I get them dressed after their baths. It keeps them occupied while laying on the bed and gets them prepared for brushing later.

We sing the ABCS a couple times. We let them brush then we finish.
