No More Smelly Laundry with Smelly Towel! {Review & Giveaway}

Tuesday, January 05, 2010 Posted by Jolly Mom

A while back, I reviewed a product called Smelly Washer. I was amazed at how it completely removed the mildew and odor from my mom's washing machine. When they came to me about their new product--Smelly Towel--I had to do it because smelly towels and laundry is a problem at my house. You know what I'm talking about. You start a load of laundry and then forget about it. Overnight. What you get is foul smelling clothing. It is hard to get the smell out too.

Why Towels Build Up Mold, Mildew, and Odor:
Overuse of detergents, using fabric softener and/or using only low water temperatures for washing will cause odor in your washer. The odor-causing residue and mold spores are transferred to towels and clothing and are impossible to remove until the washer has been cleaned. Towels are more plush than clothing therefore absorb more mold spores. Also, towels are used near the face and when wet so odor is noticed more.

Smelly Towel aims to get that smell out of your clothing. It is designed to remove mold spores from towels and clothing making them smell new again. Just like Smelly Washer, Smelly Towel is an all natural powder. However, unlike Smelly Washer--Smelly Towel does have a scent. It smells citrusy and clean. Love it! Now, the test. A big pile of wet towels that I purposefully let sit over night. By morning, they were definitely smelly! In the washing machine they went with a capful of Smelly Towel. When the towels came out, the smell was gone. Seriously. This company knows what they are doing. To use Smelly Towel, you just use it in place of your regular detergent and run the washing machine on the hot cycle. For more extreme cases, you can let the laundry soak for two hours.

Want It: Smelly Towel is not available for purchase yet. Coming soon!

This giveaway is closed. Congratulations to the winner, LUV2CUSMILE!

    I learned very important for our washing habits which I didn't even know! Along w/ a few other reasons that make a "smelly washer", one is COLD WATER! I doo one wash in hot water and everything else is cold. I can do a hot soak to help keep the smell down (along w/ not overusing detergent and fabric softener)and when doing that I can soak soiled items as well- Very Helpful tip! (Love all of the other tips as well) I had heard about this on another person's blog and asked questions about it because they did not have a lot of information on this. Thx so much for bringing this to the forefront again!

    I learned: "I did a cleaning and my washer smells worse! - You have a more extreme case! It's actually a good sign that it smells worse! In more extreme cases as the outer layers of fungus get dissolved away the inner layers are exposed to air and may smell worse. Do another overnight soak. If your washer is several years old it may take several soaks to remove the build-up of detergent and fungus inside your washing machine." This is good to know!

    The frequency of use depends upon the amount of detergent used, if fabric softener is used and the temperature of water generally used after cleaning your washer. That being stated - many customers like to do maintenance cycles. If any type of maintenance cycle is done only a half-teaspoon of SmellyWasher is needed in a normal hot soak to remove any residue.
