Working Out Can Be Fun & Effective: EA SPORTS Active Personal Trainer {Review & Giveaway}
I have battled weight issues pretty much my entire life. Up and down. Up and down. That is my life story when it comes to the scale. I am a great dieter. When I commit to an eating plan--I commit. The missing link has always been exercise. I hate it. I have always said that if I could wish for one realistic thing {you know after the gazillion dollars, a house in the Hamptons, living forever, etc...}, it would be that I loved to work out. You know---really enjoyed exercising and that fitness was a part of my daily life. I've spent a lot of money over the years on expensive gym memberships, exercise equipment, dvds, videos---everything you can imagine and then some. Nothing has wowed me or interested me enough to stick with it in the long run. Until now. Until the Wii and EA SPORTS Active Personal Trainer. I mean it from the bottom of my heart that both of these things have changed my life. I know that is a big statement, but it is true.
EA SPORTS Active Personal Trainer is a customizable and interactive fitness program for the Wii. It comes with the game, leg strap, and resistance band. You attach the leg strap to your upper leg and when prompted, you place the Wii Nunchuk controller into it. This is how the game tracks your leg movements and ensures that you have correct form during the exercises. The resistance band is used for upper body exercises like bicep curls, shoulder presses, and so on. A couple of things that I want to note. First, it is important that the leg strap be placed in the correct spot on your leg or the game won't correctly sense your movements {i.e. it will tell you that you're running too slow or not squatting low enough}. Make sure it is up high enough and that it doesn't slip down during your workout. While I haven't had issues with it slipping down a lot--sometimes it will happen after jumping or running moves. The only complaint I have with the game is that the included resistance band is honestly not enough for a good workout. Thankfully, resistance bands are not really expensive and are easy to find at Target, Walmart, and sporting good stores. I had a couple laying around collecting dust from years ago so now I use one of those instead of the EA Active band. So, once you're set up with your leg strap, you are ready to work out and have some fun {yes, it is FUN}! Oh and I almost forgot, if you have a Wii Balance Board--EA Active is compatible with it so you will be able to use it on some workouts.

The game will ask you to create a profile--you plug in your height, weight, even choose outfits for your Mii, and you pick a trainer. The game itself has over 25 exercises and sports drills to choose from. You can also do the 30 Day Challenge, which is what I have been doing for the last 3 weeks. If you choose the 30 Day Challenge, you will be guided through 20 minute workouts according to your level of fitness. The workouts will be different every day, which keeps the game from getting boring. What I love is that you really feel like you have your own trainer. The game gives you instant feedback on your form and intensity. You see how many calories you are burning, how many reps you have left, and how far you are into the workout. The game keeps you motivated at all times.
The actual workouts are truly a lot of fun. You do sports drills like baseball, volleyball, basketball, inline skating, tennis, and more. There's even a cardio dance section! You will walk, jog, run, and do all sorts of track exercises. You will lunge and squat and jump and then lunge some more. And, you will love it LOL. I think the reason is that the game keeps things fresh and the circuits are short. I seriously LOVE working out now. I look forward to it every morning. I don't even recognize myself. Who is this person who loves to workout?! Results have been great too. I am seeing more definition in my arms and legs and I have lost 4 pounds! That is all from the LOW intensity mode. My plan is to do the 30 Day Challenge on LOW intensity mode, then restart on MEDIUM, and finally restart again on HIGH intensity. After that, I will buy EA SPORTS Active More Workouts, which is the brand new expansion workout game. I cannot wait to try it!
If getting fit, losing weight, or being a healthier person are on your list of TO DO'S this year, I highly recommend getting EA SPORTS Active Personal Trainer {and a Wii if you don't already have one}. It changed my life and I firmly believe that it can help others too. I'll make sure to keep you guys updated on my progress as my journey with EA SPORTS Active continues in the months ahead!

I like that w/ the Active Personal trainer I can do the toning and strength exercises and using the Wii controls allows my movements to be tracked on the screen and the trainer will give me feedback on my techniques in movement. That way if I am doing something wrong it can help correct my posture or what have you & I still get the workout with the ultimate benefit.
