How To Make a Lavender Heating Pad {Guest Post}
Guest post written by Ericka Pawlowski of Busy Bee Baby Basics and Chronicles of a SAHM.
On cold, days, sick days or PMS days, I can’t think of anything better than sitting down with a hot cup of cocoa and a heating pad on my aches and pains! Especially one that is scented with lavender! I’ve seen them in the Mall, at kiosks, in gift shops and just about anywhere! But what if you could make your own? You can! You can pick out the exact color you want! It’s inexpensive and fun! Check out these easy steps:
I use quilting squares. They come in fun colors, and can be found at WalMart for about $1. They also don’t require any cutting!

1. Fold the square in half, with right sides together and pin. To make it lay flat, I usually press it with a hot iron
2. Stitch up 2 sides using a 1” seam.
I usually trim the extra with pinking shears or use a serger, it keeps the edges from fraying) This will form a “pouch”.

3. Turn your “pouch” inside right and press.

4. Fill with 6 cups of rice and ¼ cup of lavender.

5. Fold the ends of the opening to the inside, press and pin.
6. Sew the end closed!

You are finished! Now you can put the pad in the microwave for 2-3 minutes (depending on the power of the microwave) and enjoy! The aroma is a wonderful nutty and lavender smell. The pad can be put in the freezer, as well. To keep the lavender smell, just store it in a zip lock bag!
Enjoy!

Lavender is so soothing. One of my sons has migraines and I bought a Hot Neck that you throw in the microwave and, instead of around his neck, we put it around his head. Now, I want to learn how to make one of those! They're pretty pricey!
I liked how you bumped up the heating pad to not only feel good but look good, too:)
