Get Your Kids WAUSSIEFIED!

Thursday, May 20, 2010 Posted by Jolly Mom

I know most moms will agree when I say that kids grow up way too fast these days. There are so many outside influences constantly bombarding our kids with mature content--it's almost inevitable. The question is how do we raise our children amidst all of the external influences that are way too often negative? Really, it is as simple as teaching kids the important life lessons: kindness, love, respect, manners, and so on. That's why I have fallen in love with a new series of children’s books entitled The Waussies written by Australian author Jacqui Taub.

The Waussies are a group of six whimsical, brightly colored characters from Australia, all created and illustrated by Taub. Each of the Waussies are featured in their own book, with accompanying CD. Each book features a story that delivers similar messages of kindness and acceptance through fun and humorous situations. The attached CD introduces The Waussie Song, with its own special message of never giving up, even if things are difficult.

Book Excerpt: The Waussies believe in kindness, good health, fun, and laughter--especially at themselves! And, Waussies never give up, even if the problem seems difficult.

Taub began writing The Waussies series over 25 years ago, and has incorporated many messages into the books including:

* The meaning of manners - Why a “thank you” or “please” can mean more to others than we think
* A kernel of kindness - The smallest acts of kindness can be a gift to others, and yourself
* The power of patience - Both children and parents should take the time to listen and understand what other say and feel
* A message of motivation - Don’t be afraid to reach for the stars and accomplish your dreams, no matter how big or small you (or your dreams) may be
* The secret to success - Success isn’t marked by accomplishing a goal. You succeed the minute you begin trying

We were sent Hiccup Waussie Loses His Hiccups to review and it is such a cute story. In the book Hiccup Waussie has a bad case of the hiccups and his friends help him get rid of them. It's a story about friendship and never giving up with lots of laughs in between. Very cute!

The Waussies series has been written for children ages 3-7 and includes the following titles: Boomerang Waussie to the Rescue, Tennis Racquet Waussie’s Space Adventure, Burger Waussie’s Lost Bun, Beachball Waussie’s Lost Air Stopper, Hiccup Waussie Loses His Hiccups, and Pineapple Waussie’s Tickly Problem.

I had books when I was little that had well mannered and behaved (proper little girls) in them. It's nice to see someone hasn't forgotten how important manners and treating others is, especially in this day and age. Kudos
