Weekend at the Movies with Jolly Mom!
I know we still have a while before school starts back up, but it's never too early to get kids excited about learning and prepared for the year ahead, right?! That's why I love the new Sesame Street DVD called Preschool is Cool! ABCs with Elmo, which teaches children early reading skills like the alphabet, letter names, and letter sounds.
DVD SYNOPSIS: In ABCs with Elmo, Grover acts as the preschool teacher, Professor Grover, and Elmo is his helper for today’s alphabet lesson! But Before Professor Grover begins class, he instructs his students, with his classic Grover charm, to find one thing that begins with each letter of the alphabet. Featuring alphabet themed stories and songs, early literacy skills are reinforced while kids become familiar with letter-sound relationships. Kids and caregivers will find it as easy as ABC to join in the fun with their favorite furry friends in a real preschool.
This DVD even comes with a bonus growth chart for parents to track their child's growth. This DVD is actually part of a new Sesame Street series called “Preschool is Cool” so expect more fun and educational series to come!

Here's one both parents and their kids will enjoy! The 13 Ghosts of Scooby-Doo The Complete Series originally premiered September 1985 on ABC and it is now available on DVD! This Scooby-Doo series is a two-disc set and includes 13 episodes featuring the voice of the late, suspense/horror film acting legend, Vincent Price.
DVD SYNOPSIS: In The 13 Ghosts of Scooby-Doo, mystery and mayhem prevail when Scooby-Doo and Shaggy accidentally set free a pack of troublemaking spooks. On a trip to Honolulu, Daphne’s plane winds up landing in Tibet. While visiting a temple, Scooby and Shaggy are tricked into opening the Chest of Demons, which houses 13 of the most-frightening ghosts and ghouls to ever haunt the earth. The ghosts however, can only be returned to the chest by those who originally released them. To prevent them from wreaking havoc upon the world, the gang embarks on a global quest to recapture them. Scooby-Doo’s nephew, Scrappy-Doo, a mischievous boy named Flim-Flam, and warlock Vincent Van Ghoul join the team throughout the season, as they set out to trap the escaped specters.

And, finally a movie that both Mike and I have been anxiously awaiting--Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief. If you or your kids are Harry Potter fans, you will like Percy Jackson. It is even directed by Chris Columbus who also did the first two Harry Potter films! Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief is an epic story based on the popular book series by Rick Riordan. Mythical worlds, heroic characters, action, and adventure all come together into a movie that the entire family can enjoy!
DVD SYNOPSIS: The film follows trouble-prone Percy Jackson who finds himself having problems in high school… but that’s the least of his challenges. It’s the 21st century, but the gods of Mount Olympus have walked out of the pages of his Greek mythology texts and into his life, and they’re not happy – Zeus’ lightning bolt has been stolen, and Percy is the prime suspect. Learning he is the son of Poseidon, the young teen finds himself caught between angry and battling gods, and embarks on a cross-country adventure to catch the true lightning thief and unravel a mystery more powerful than the gods themselves.
The Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief Blu-ray includes over an hour of special features, 10 deleted scenes, a “Secrets of the Gods” featurette, an “On Set” with Brandon T. Jackson, and much more. The standard DVD includes five deleted scenes, “Bringing The Book To Life” featurette and a “Discover Your Powers” quiz.
The Blu-ray Disc with Digital Copy is available for $26.99 at Amazon.com and the standard DVD is available at Amazon.com for $19.99. Also, look for both versions at retailers across the country where ever DVDs are sold.
