Step Into Summer with Crisco & a Coleman Grill! {Giveaway}

Step Into Summer with Crisco & a Coleman Grill! {Giveaway}

This Sunday, the country will be celebrating one of the greatest days in our history together---Independence Day. Most of us will be celebrating the 4th of July with family, friends, fireworks, and of course...great food! Before firing up your grills this weekend, take a look at the Crisco.com website. They have some amazing, mouth-watering recipes that would be perfect for the 4th of July! Some of my favorite recipes include:

Photobucket
Photobucket
Photobucket
Don't those look good?!! YUM!!

All of those recipes are made using one of Crisco's three Cooking Sprays: Butter, Original, and Olive Oil. If you're cooking on a grill, then these are must-haves if you want to avoid food sticking.

PhotobucketPhotobucketPhotobucket
Both the Butter and Original Cooking Sprays don't contain any alcohol and are perfect for either baking or everyday cooking. My favorite of the three is the Olive Oil Spray though. It is made with 100% Olive Oil so it tastes great, it's healthy, and it doesn't contain anything that I can't pronounce {which is always a plus!}.

For those of you still finalizing your 4th of July menus or even if you're looking for some creative and fun Summer recipes, I definitely suggest that you check out the Crisco.com website. There are even wonderful articles, tips, and How To Videos that offer lots of cooking inspiration!

And, thanks to Crisco, I have an amazing 4th of July inspired giveaway for you guys!

Step Into Summer With the V.Reader Animated e-Reading System by VTech {Review & Giveaway}

Step Into Summer With the V.Reader Animated e-Reading System by VTech {Review & Giveaway}

A few weeks ago, I blogged about the brand new MobiGo by VTech. I was blown away at that time, but VTech has really outdone themselves now...really. How about a Kindle of sorts for kids??? That's exactly what people are calling VTech's new V.Reader! The V.Reader is an animated e-Reading system that not only makes reading a fun experience, but it also builds children's reading skills with fun games and other educational features.

Photobucket
On the exterior, the V.Reader is tough...obviously built with kids in mind. It is durable and substantial. There's even a cover to protect the screen. When you first start the V.Reader, you are prompted to customize it with your child's name and you can even choose an avatar. Lucas is into cars so naturally his avatar is a car. In the near future, there will also be additional avatars and customizations available for free at the VTech Kids website. Currently, there are 11 software options (with more titles to be added in the near future). The software or story cartridges are based on favorite children's characters and include:

The Little Engine that Could
Disney/Pixar’s Cars
Shrek
Dora the Explorer
Disney/Pixar’s Toy Story 3
Disney Princesses
Olivia
Disney Fairies
Mr. Men and Little Miss
Scooby-Doo
Mickey Mouse Clubhouse

Once the cartridge is in, the fun begins! The V.Reader prompts kids to choose what they want to do--read the story or play a game. The V.Reader operates on a highly intuitive touch screen and it even comes with a stylus pen for kids to use as well. The story cartridges each come with a story and a variety of educational games, which are designed to build reading skills. For example, kids will learn about reading comprehension, build their vocabulary, work on phonics, and more. Kids can also choose to have the story read to them, but the cool thing is that the story is actually animated. Just like a book though, kids "turn the page" either by touching the screen or with the two large buttons at the bottom of the V.Reader. In addition, during the story--kids can touch the page to learn more about the story and interact with the characters. There's even a dictionary that reads children the definition of a word in child-friendly language that kids will understand. All of these interactive features, make the V.Reader highly engaging and is a lot of fun for kids!

More Notable Features
  • Animated Storyteller: Stories come to life through vivid animation, narration, character voices, graphics, sounds and music. Young children engage with stories by watching, reading and learning. They follow their favorite character’s voice, play reading games and use the story dictionary.
  • Downloadable Fun: With a rich download library, more than 100 additional stories will be available via a download library located on the VTech Web site (www.vtechkids.com), including some free titles, more themes and avatars to customize their e-readers. V.Reader is compatible with a PC or Mac computer.
  • Track Progress: Parents can join in on the fun and learning process with the features that include progress reports and reading certificates.

See It In Action:

Want It: The V.Reader is currently only available at Target and will become available nationwide in August at all key retailers and online at www.vtechkids.com. ARV: $59.99

LIFE Now Available on DVD & Blu-ray!

LIFE Now Available on DVD & Blu-ray!

I don’t know how many of you watched Planet Earth, but it is one of my all time favorite documentaries. We watched it as it was aired on TV. We loved it so much that we had to buy it. So, I was beyond thrilled when I found out about the BBC and the Discovery Channel’s newest documentary called LIFE. This is yet another awe-inspiring, landmark natural history documentary that everyone should watch. It takes you on an in depth look at the wonders of life on this planet. It goes even deeper and closer to nature than ever before and if you’ve seen Planet Earth—that’s saying a lot.

Photobucket

To me, one of the most incredible aspects of these documentaries is actually how they are filmed. The passion and dedication that goes into filming something of this magnitude is unbelievable! LIFE took over four years to make. It was filmed over 3000 days, across every continent and in every habitat around the world. It even features breathtaking new high definition filming techniques that make watching the documentary an amazing experience!

Presented as an 11 part series and wonderfully narrated by one of my favorite people--Oprah Winfrey, LIFE tells 130 incredible stories from across the world. This is something you will want to gather the family to watch together! LIFE is an experience. It is packed with excitement, entertainment, and education. It will give you and your family a new found respect for the other living things that we share this earth with. Not only a must watch, but a must own DVD set!

Challenges of Life
Reptiles and Amphibians
Mammals
Fish
Birds
Creatures of the Deep
Hunters and Hunted
Insects
Plants
Primates
Making of Life

Buy it on DVD or Blu-ray where DVDs are sold or at Amazon.com for $40.49 {DVD} and $48.99 {Blu-ray}.

Step Into Summer With Borders! {$100 Gift Cards--2 WINNERS}

Step Into Summer With Borders! {$100 Gift Cards--2 WINNERS}

When I was a young girl, I spent the Summers doing what all kids do--swimming, riding my bike, playing with friends, and...reading. I read a book a day pretty much. Do you guys remember the Choose Your Own Adventure books and the Sweet Valley High books? Those were the types of books that single-handedly sparked my love for reading. They were fun and interesting...maybe not educational per se, but they made me want to read. This Summer, I suggest you check out Borders and their Double Dog Dare Summer Reading Challenge, which rewards children for reading by giving them a FREE BOOK when they read any 10 books this Summer! If you haven't heard about it, make sure to read this post which explains in detail how the program works.

Photobucket

And, to get your home libraries stocked this Summer, Borders is also sponsoring a wonderful giveaway today for you guys!

Weekend at the Movies with Jolly Mom! {GIVEAWAY}

Weekend at the Movies with Jolly Mom! {GIVEAWAY}

These past few weeks have been so incredibly hectic for us filled with packing up our home, moving, and then even a blog party that I haven't been able to post my weekly roundup of new DVD releases. I am happy to report that Weekend at the Movies is back today though {albeit a bit late in the day} and it is a doozie since I'm making up for lost time! ENJOY!

First up is Max & Ruby: A Visit with Grandma. Max & Ruby is possibly one of the most endearing animated series on TV--it is an adorable show about Max a very determined 3-year old bunny and his older sister, Ruby, a smart, goal-oriented 7 year old. The show is both funny and educational--teaching kids how to work out issues with one another in a way that is respectful and supportive.

Photobucket
SYNOPSIS: "A Visit with Grandma" focuses on Max & Ruby as they play and visit with Grandma. Grandma has organized a Treasure Hunt for Max, Ruby and Louise. Max thinks it's all about "pirates!" but Ruby and Louise know it's all about treasure! The final clue leads them to Grandma's house, where, to their surprise, Grandma greets them in the backyard, with a trunk full of treasure, but dressed as a "Pirate!"

Buy it where DVDs are sold and at Amazon.com for $11.99.

If you or someone you know is expecting a baby or recently welcomed a newborn baby, you must check out renowned singer-songwriter Sara Hickman's Big Bird, Little Bird on DVD. This is such a lovely DVD for babies, based upon Sara Hickman's award winning CD Newborn.

SYNOPSIS: The DVD is brought to life through bright, colorful computer animation (one by Sara herself) that engages young viewers and creates a calming bonding experience between parent and child that can be shared and enjoyed again and again. Whether learning about the goop lingering in the corner of your eye, the family tree or a dispute between two birds over a crumb of bread, Big Bird, Little Bird is a DVD that's a sweet union of visual, lyrical and musical art and a stunning treasure to be added to any wee one s home video library.

The songs included on the DVD are: It's Alright (acapella), A Slice of Heaven, Goop's In It, Big Bird, Little Bird, Lily, This Heart, You Are My Sunshine, The Family Tree (You and Me), All Things Bright and Beautiful, We Are Each Others Angels and Its Alright.

Photobucket
What makes Big Bird, Little Bird a great gift for a new mom is that it also includes 15 short parenting tips! Tips include Nursing, First Hello, Introduce Your Baby, Being Polite, Being on the Same Level, No-No to Pacifiers, G.E.M.s, Feeling Frustrated, Early to Bed, Early to Rise, Consistency is Key, It s a Whole Other World, Going to the Store, Family Ritual and Rap Up.

For more info or to purchase, please visit SaraHickman.com.

If you're preschool aged child is having issues with taking naps, following directions, or being responsible {whose child isn't?? LOL} then check out the newest Bob the Builder DVD--Building from Scratch!

Photobucket
SYNOPSIS: Bob the Builder and his Can-Do Crew have fun getting it done in these exciting building adventures, now in CGI! Join them as they construct all the fixings for a new athletic field and learn why working together is always the blueprint for success. Scratch, the newest member of the team, has many lessons to learn, such as the importance of taking naps, following directions, and taking responsibility. But he is not alone — Roley, Dizzy, Scoop and the entire Top Team are ready to share in the fun, and get the job done!

Buy it where DVDs are sold and at Amazon.com for $13.49.

I'll be honest, I am personally not a big fan of Yo Gabba Gabba, but...kids love this show. They are literally drawn to it--at least Lucas and all his cousins are LOL. Every time it comes on, Lucas gets up and dances to the music! For the young Yo Gabba Gabba fans, there is a new DVD called Clubhouse!

Photobucket
SYNOPSIS: Get ready to dance and sing -- just say the magic words “Yo Gabba Gabba!” Come join Gabbaland characters (Muno, Foofa, Brobee, Toodee, Plex and DJ Lance Rock) as they build an awesome clubhouse; travel through the jungle on a wild adventure; play with some silly animals and enjoy other fun outdoor activities! Featuring musical guests Erykah Badu, The Killers, Jimmy Eat World and more.

Buy it where DVDs are sold or at Amazon.com for $11.99.

Another new DVD that toddlers and preschoolers will love is Barney: Songs from the Park. This is actually a DVD and music CD combo so it is also a very smart buy! The DVD is chock full of music and features 20 of children's favorite Barney songs. The bonus CD also has five songs for kids to sing along with in the car, at home, or anywhere they want! The songs featured on the CD include: "Fun, Fun, Sunny Day," "By Myself," "Duckies Do," "Rain, Rain Go Away," and "Bubbles."

Photobucket
SYNOPSIS: Barney’s park is a fun place to play! Create musical memories with 20 of your favorite songs and join Barney, Baby Bop™ and BJ™ as they visit the pond, gazebo, playground and caboose. It’s something to sing about!

Buy it where DVDs are sold and at Amazon.com for $8.99.

Shaun the Sheep and Wallace & Gromit are actually some of Lucas' {and Mike's} favorite DVDs so we were thrilled to receive the newest Shaun the Sheep DVD--One Giant Leap for Lambkind. Shaun the Sheep is actually created by the same people that make Wallace & Gromit and it is an awesome show--even the adults will be cracking up! One Giant Leap for Lambkind is a six episode collection and the only place you can find these full length episodes.

Photobucket
SYNOPSIS: Unidentified Farm Objects and paranormal sightings are the norm with Shaun the Sheep and his barnyard buddies Bitzer, Shirley and Timmy, as they encounter more madcap mischief along with those Naughty Pigs next door. Big laughs are evident, as the creators of the Academy Award®-winning Wallace & Gromit™ are out to prove that sheep-herding fun is universal.

Buy it where DVDs are sold and online at Amazon.com for $12.99.

Tween girls will be thrilled to learn that there's a new iCarly DVD out called iCarly: iSaved Your Life! My niece, Victoria--loves iCarly--it is one of her favorite shows!

Photobucket
SYNOPSIS: Is Carly really falling in love with Freddie? Will Sam quit the web show? Did Freddie really kiss Sam? Has Spencer completely lost his marbles? Find out the answers to all of these questions and join the gang as they deal with all the craziness of school, growing up, and crankin’ out the best web show out there in iCarly: iSaved Your Life.

Buy it where DVDs are sold and at Amazon.com for $13.49.

And, last but not least...how about two movies for us--the moms! First up is Happy Tears starring Parker Posey, Demi Moore, Rip Torn, and Ellen Barkin. This is such a touching story about two sisters and their sick father. It will make you cry and crack up laughing. While I'm not sure how much the guys will like it, Happy Tears is definitely a movie I think most women will enjoy!

Photobucket
SYNOPSIS: Jayne (Parker Posey) and Laura (Demi Moore) are about to take on the first man they just might not be able to handle: their father Joe (Rip Torn). Dutiful daughters returning to the house they grew up in, Jayne and Laura are forced to take a closer look at their own not-so-perfect lives. Laura suspects that Joe needs full-time care, but Jayne refuses to believe that their father’s condition is serious. Jayne’s compulsion to escape reality only increases Laura’s attempts to yank her back down to earth. Meanwhile, Joe still sings and plays the blues on his prized guitar, and the lively widower even has a new “ladyfriend,” shameless and sassy Shelly (Ellen Barkin). Tensions flare as Joe’s senility increases and the close sisters must also juggle their own very different lives – but their adventures back home are not without merriment, mischief and even a little childhood magic.

Buy it where DVDs are sold and online at Amazon.com for $19.99.

And, finally you have to check out The Good Guy--a movie about a girl who like most of us--wants it all--career, friendship, and love. This movie stars Alexis Bledel, who you may recognize from one of my favorite shows--The Gilmore Girls.

Photobucket
SYNOPSIS: Ambitious young New Yorker Beth (Alexis Bledel) wants it all: a good job, good friends and a good guy to share the city with. Of course that last one is trickiest of all, as Beth discovers when she falls hard for Tommy (Scott Porter), a handsome, young Wall Street hotshot. Just as everything seems to be falling into place, Beth meets Tommy’s shy, clumsy co-worker Daniel (Bryan Greenberg) – and soon learns that the game of love in the big city is a lot like Wall Street – high risk, high reward…and everybody has an angle.

Buy it where DVDs are sold and online at Amazon.com for $19.99.

Step Into Summer With Snapware Food Storage Containers {GIVEAWAY}

Step Into Summer With Snapware Food Storage Containers {GIVEAWAY}

This Summer, moms, dads, and their kids will be on the go--to parks, vacation, the pool, the beach, on picnics--all sorts of fun places. You'll need to pack snacks and food to go along with you. That's why I am thrilled to have found what I have deemed the "perfect storage containers" by Snapware. They sent me the 14 Piece Food Storage Container Set and it is such a well-rounded set loaded with benefits.

Photobucket

Check out the features:

Made in the USA
Stackable
Airtight
Leak Proof
Dishwasher Safe
Microwave Safe
Freezer Safe
Lifetime Warranty {yes, I said Lifetime!}
BPA Free

Need I say more??

Perfection.

The set comes with the following containers and matching lids:
(2) 1.2 cups
(1) 2.8 cups
(1) 2.0 cups
(1) 4.7 cups

You know how sometimes you buy food storage "sets" and there's a bunch of teeny tiny containers that are really unusable and impractical? Well, Snapware doesn't give you any unusable containers in this set. All the containers are practical and useful.

The containers are lightweight and clear so that you can see everything inside. The seal is nice and airtight, but it's also easy to open {unlike some storage containers}. What makes me the happiest is that these are 100% BPA FREE. Both the lids and vessels are made of polypropylene (PP) and the seals are made of silicone. This means you can use them in the microwave and the dishwasher without worrying about toxic chemicals. Priced at $24.99, the 14 Piece Food Storage Container Set is also very affordable.

Snapware has loads of storage products for pretty much every household need--crafts, garage, toys, supplies, pets, clothes--every type of container you can imagine! Since we're speaking of Summer though, I am loving these carriers for cupcakes, cakes, and eggs. These are perfect for potlucks, parties, and picnics!

Step Into Summer In Comfort & Style with Crocs {Giveaway}

Step Into Summer In Comfort & Style with Crocs {Giveaway}

There's nothing worst than being excited about an event, a day of shopping, or a fun-filled day at an amusement park only to have aching, blistering feet a few minutes into the day. It totally ruins the day. Ladies, this Summer--choose comfort and...fashion. You really can have both. I wouldn't have believed it until last year when I had the chance to review a pair of Olivias by Crocs. I know what you're thinking. "Crocs and fashion?" I know what people say. "Crocs are ugly." But...people that say that haven't seen what Crocs has been up to lately. They are not the Crocs of old. You just can't tell me these are ugly.

Photobucket
I double dog dare you to tell me these are ugly.

Or, even these sportier Crocbands:

Maybe they aren't your particular style, but ugly?? No way. The Crocs of today are modern. Chic. Feminine. Some are even sexy. Crocs sent me the Farrah Wedge to try out.

Photobucket
The Crocs Farrah wedge sandal features:

* Fully molded summertime fashion wedge.
* Suede lined molded croslite material upper with elastic heel strap for a secure and adjustable fit.
* Wedge height is approximately 3.34 inches.
* Croslite wedge allows for lightweight cushioning.

Up until now I had only tried the Olivia's which are flats. I wasn't sure that Crocs with heels would be able to retain the same amount of luxurious comfort that my Olivia's provide. I was wrong. I don't know what Crocs does exactly but whatever it is...they are doing it so right. These are so comfortable. You literally feel like you're walking on air. I realize that it's actually a bit unbelievable. Go to a store near you that sells Crocs and try on a pair and see what I mean. And, they are super cute to boot, right?! I absolutely love them and I am so excited about wearing them with dresses and skirts this Summer!

The secret behind Crocs is of course, their Croslite material. This picture gives a bit of insight into how Crocs are so comfy:

New Playmobil Playsets Heat Up Summer Fun!

New Playmobil Playsets Heat Up Summer Fun!

If you're looking for a toy that gets kids' imaginations going, you have to check out Playmobil's newest playsets for Summer! The African Wildlife and Dragon Land playworlds offer children two wild adventures with limitless options for pretend and open-ended play.

PhotobucketPhotobucket
Lucas has been playing with the Wildlife Care Station from the African Wildlife Collection and let me tell you it has been a huge hit with him! The Wildlife Care Station comes with a variety of animals, people, furniture, and accessories. Honestly, the accessories are adorable! There are itty bitty bandages, bottles and food to feed the animals, laptop computers, lanterns, binoculars, and so much more. There's even a giraffe that has a wound--when kids rub the wound--the wound "heals" and disappears. Literally, this playset keeps Lucas entertained for as long as I will let him play with it. It's also a great learning tool. Kids will learn about safari animals and more importantly--it's an opportunity to teach children the importance of caring for others. I highly recommend the Wildlife Care Station!

There are also other coordinating playsets and accessories that can be added on to make playtime even more fun for kids!

This is actually our first experience with Playmobil and their playsets really impressed me. They are durable while still being detailed and realistic. The only drawback is that there were a lot of pieces that needed to be put together for the Wildlife Care Station, but once it's put together...you don't have to do it anymore. The playset stays put nicely---even after Lucas plays with it for hours and that's saying something LOL.

Buy the Wildlife Care Station online and at major toy retailers across the country for approximately $69.99. To stay up to date on all Playmobil news and offers make sure to follow them on Facebook and Twitter!

The featured product{s} in this post were provided to me free of charge by the manufacturer or pr company representing the company. All opinions expressed in this review are my own and not influenced in any way by anyone. Please refer to this site's Terms of Use for more information.

Step Into Summer With The Spray & Rescue Fire Truck by Little Tikes {Review & Giveaway}

Step Into Summer With The Spray & Rescue Fire Truck by Little Tikes {Review & Giveaway}

If you're looking for the perfect Summer toy for your toddler and preschool aged kids, look no further than the Little Tikes Spray & Rescue Fire Truck. This is the kind of toy that makes you wish you were still a kid LOL. Every child loves fire trucks so a fire truck ride on is guaranteed to be a hit even without a bunch of bells and whistles, but...if the fire truck actually sprays water...well, then you better be prepared to be the coolest mom on the block!

Photobucket

The Little Tikes Spray & Rescue Fire Truck has a pressurized water tank on the back of the ride on that really sprays water. The water tank comes off so that you can easily fill the tank. The tank itself is large and holds two gallons of water. To spray the water, kids pump the pressurized water tank and press the button on the hose nozzle. Out comes a spray of water! Lucas LOVES the Spray & Rescue Fire Truck. THIS IS HIS FAVORITE NEW TOY. Every day he heads outside with his fireman hat on, ready to "fight fires"! It is adorable! And, I must say that all of his cousins--even my 9 year old niece--loves the Spray & Rescue Fire Truck. Her words exactly were..."this thing is cool! It really sprays water!"

Photobucket

The Spray & Rescue Fire Truck is adorable too! It has a cute smiley face that kids will love!

See It In Action:

Want It: The Spray & Rescue Fire Truck is intended for kids ages 1 1/2 to 5 years. It can be purchased at major toy retailers across the country and online for about $69.99. Visit LittleTikes.com for more information.
