12 Days of Christmas Activities – Day 5 Ornament Exchange #12JollyDays

Disclosure 1

12DayOfChristmas_Day5

Our Christmas tree is filled with ornaments that represent us. Our family. Our memories. Throughout the year, we collect new ornaments to add to the tree. We buy an ornament at every travel destination. We have ornaments from our trips to Ocean City, Disney World, Disney Land, Chattanooga, and more. Our tree has an ornament marking each year that Mike and I have been married. There’s an ornament for each child’s first Christmas. We have ornaments from when we were kids. Ornaments made by us as a family or by Lucas at school. It’s a beautiful sight to see and it always brings up memories while we trim the tree. We talk about the places we’ve been or remember Lucas’ first Christmas or share stories of our own childhood.

IMG_6472

Each Christmas, we like to give each other special ornaments that mark a milestone or hobby. This year, we have several new ornaments. For Lucas – the gamer and baseball ornaments. Two of his obsessions.

IMG_7481

IMG_7491

For Amelia – the sock monkey and Elmo ornaments. She is obsessed with Elmo lately!

IMG_52509

IMG_7523

For Mike – the beer and griller ornament. Mike loves to brew his own craft beers and he can regularly be found at the grill or smoker making a tasty dinner for us.

IMG_7535

IMG_7530

For Aries (our dog) – a beautiful chocolate lab ornament.

IMG_7520

For Family – a new “The Jollys” ornament marking each member of the family.

IMG_7515

For Me – the photographer and smartphone ornaments. These couldn’t be more perfect, right?!

IMG_7540

Exchanging ornaments is a special tradition that every family can do during the holiday season and will create lasting memories. You could host an ornament exchange party with friends or family, make homemade ornaments with the kids, or if you have an “elf” friend he or she can surprise everyone with a new ornament (our Elf Sherman does this every year, actually).

12 Days of Christmas Activities – Day 4 Indoor Snowball Fight #12JollyDays

Disclosure 1

12DayOfChristmas_Day4

Here in HOTlanta, we don’t get a lot of snow. MAYBE one time per year. If we’re lucky. But there’s no reason that we shouldn’t be able to join in on all of the fun snowball fights to be had, right? That’s why we like to have our own INDOOR snowball fights. We surprised the kids with these indoor snowball buckets and declared a snowball fight war.

IMG_6839

Let’s just say it was fun.

untitled folder 2

A lot of fun.

Honestly, my friends up north could also benefit from an indoor snowball fight. You get all the fun without the bitter cold and mess. It’s a win, win!

12 Days of Christmas Activities – Day 3 New PJs for the Family #12JollyDays

Disclosure 1

12DayOfChristmas_Day3

Can I just open one present, mommy? These are words heard around the world in the days leading up to Christmas. I know that I begged my parents. My brothers (all four of them) begged our parents. My husband begged his parents. My kiddos plead with us now. The solution? Give them one gift to unwrap before Christmas morning.

IMG_6822

The gift? New Christmas pajamas for the whole family. I know that a lot of families do this one, but there’s a good reason why. It’s a fun and simple tradition that everyone looks forward to every year.

IMG_6976

We like them to match or coordinate, of course! That way we are ready for pictures on Christmas morning.

IMG_6959

Personalization is always such a special touch. Everyone loves to have their name on their pjs!

Christmas Pajamas Tradition Ideas

1. As the kids get older, draw names to determine who each person will buy pajamas for. The goal? Buy the silliest pajamas you can find!

2. Open your new pajamas and hop in the car and drive around town to look at Christmas light displays.

3. Open your new pajamas and read a book. We usually cuddle up in bed and read the classic ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas.

4. Give pajamas and a family board game. Spend Christmas Eve in your new jammies playing a board game.

5. Give pajamas and a family movie. Spend Christmas Eve in your new jammies watching a family movie.

12 Days of Christmas Activities – Day 2 Trim the Tree & Mantel #12JollyDays

Disclosure 1

12DayOfChristmas_Day2

The holidays really kick off around our house on the weekend after Thanksgiving. That’s when we typically put up our Christmas tree and decorate the house. We like to make a big family event out of this. We hop in the car in the morning, head to breakfast, and then we start our search for the “perfect” tree at our local tree farm. Once back at home, Mike will start pulling out all of the boxes of Christmas decorations and prepping the tree with lights and garland (the most difficult part of trimming the tree) while I crank up the Christmas jams, start a fire and make a few treats.

IMG_6258

Graham crackers, marshmallows, candy canes, popcorn and hot cocoa. Simple, but delicious.

It’s time to trim the tree! Everyone joins in.

We always save the best for last. The star tree topper.

This is Lucas’ FAVORITE part…

IMG_6509

Daddy always has the honor of placing it just right on top of the tree…

IMG_6504

Then, it’s time to decorate the mantel and the rest of the house. The stockings are hung…

IMG_6248

IMG_6238

And we switch out every day accessories like pillows and blankets for something a little more festive…

IMG_6435

The result? A cozy, warm home that feels like Christmas is here.

5 Tips To Make Trimming the Tree & Mantel Fun for the Whole Family

1. Younger children typically have shorter attention spans so try to prep as much as you can before you actually begin. Make sure the house is tidy before you begin. We also like to have the lights and garland hung on the tree and then the kids join in to help hang ornaments.

2. Have fun with it! Turn up the Christmas carols and know that it’s ok if ornaments aren’t placed in the “right” spot or the tree is a little crooked.

3. Prepare a few simple, fun snacks for everyone to enjoy.

4. Make it a family event! Invite the grandparents, aunts, uncles – the more the merrier. We usually attend a tree decorating party at my parent’s every year. They make a big pot of soup, we decorate the tree, and spend time together. It’s lots of fun!

5. Share memories of past Christmases, including when you were a child. We do this a lot as we hang our box of “special ornaments”. These are the ornaments that we’ve collected as souvenirs from the places we’ve traveled or that were handmade by the kids or we even have some from our own childhood. These always bring up so many memories and it’s fun to share stories!

12 Days of Christmas Activities – Day 1 Advent Calendar #12JollyDays

 Disclosure 1

12DayOfChristmas_Day1

To me, the holidays is all about spending time with family and loved ones. There’s something special about this time of year and we really love to focus on one another as much as possible. Over the years, we have created our own holiday traditions and we look forward to them every year. So for the next twelve days, I will be sharing some of our family’s favorite holiday activities that you can do with your own family and hopefully integrate into your own traditions. Personal Creations will be joining in on the fun by providing a $500 gift card! Each day you will have the opportunity to enter!

I thought I’d begin with our favorite Christmas activity – the Advent Calendar. We have been doing one for several years and it is such a wonderful way to count down the days until Christmas. To be honest, we do several Advent Calendars. We have a small toy one for Lucas, a Nativity Book Advent (read a short story every night) and our favorite – a Family Activity Advent Calendar.

IMG_6718

It sits in the kitchen and every morning Lucas runs downstairs and opens the day’s activity.

IMG_6740

IMG_6734

IMG_6760

Each day is filled with a special activity for the whole family to enjoy. Some of the activities are big – like going to see A Christmas Carol at the theater – and some of the activities are small – like singing Christmas carols while sipping on a mug hot cocoa.

IMG_6800

Big or small. We look forward to each day.

Stocking Stuffer Ideas for Everyone in the Family

Christmas shopping is fun, but it can certainly present many challenges. There are the shopping lists, finding the best prices, dealing with the crowds (or computer, if that’s your style)… it can all be quite overwhelming at times. I come up with a plan of attack each year but the one thing that always gets left for last and can sometimes be the most frustrating is trying to figure out what to put in the stockings. So, today I thought I’d share a few stocking stuffer ideas with you!

162762_468643192869_4366264_n

Stocking Stuffers for Kids

  • Small toys – even if you have to take them out of the package. Think Hot Wheels cars, Monster Trucks, small dolls, etc.
  • Small handheld (non-electronic) games. You can find these in the check out aisles, dollar bins, or end caps. Lucas loves these and they keep him entertained for hours
  • Your child’s favorite gum or candy.
  • A coloring book or small activity book. Just roll it up and stuff it in.
  • iTunes gift card. Kids are all about music or the latest apps.

Stocking Stuffers for Her

  • A girl can never have enough make-up and they fit in a stocking so nicely.
  • Lotions and other skin care products are just the right size and will be much appreciated.
  • Chap stick or lip-gloss.
  • Her favorite magazine or a book she’s been dying to read.
  • Chocolate…lots of chocolate.

Stocking Stuffers for Him

  • A good straight razor. I know Mike uses his longer than he should, so he is always happy to get a new supply of blades.
  • His favorite magazine…Mike loves Entertainment Weekly.
  • His favorite candy. Mike loves smarties.
  • A new wallet. Guys wallets go through a lot of abuse in a year and if I didn’t buy Mike a new one, he would keep his until it fell apart.
  • Personal care products. Mike loves AXE products!

Image 2

For those of you who don’t know, AXE is a line of men’s personal care products. They are very popular and they smell great! And what makes it even better is that they sell AXE products at Sam’s Club, which is a place I like to shop at for great buys – especially during the holidays for both gifts and entertaining. Not only is the price great, but AXE also comes in multi packs so I can give Mike more than one, or maybe give one to him and the others to my brothers. Shop all AXE® products today at Sam’s Club for the best value and save this holiday season!

Image 3

One more tip! I don’t typically wrap stocking stuffers, not only can it be a pain, but we also keep ours empty until Christmas morning so we don’t have to worry about prying eyes. And I am never afraid to overstuff. An overflowing stocking hanging from the fireplace mantle or lying under the tree is a welcome sight on Christmas morning.

What do you put in your family’s stockings?

Give a Holiday Gift that Means Something #PCholiday

Disclosure 1

Gift-giving is one of my favorite things. There’s something about giving a loved one a gift and seeing their face light up as they open it up. It’s truly priceless! However, what I’ve learned over the years is that it’s not about how much the gift cost or the latest trends – the perfect gift ultimately comes down to what it will mean to the person receiving it. I always try to find a gift that is unique and special for that person. Something that will mean something to them. A gift that they will always remember. That’s why I especially love giving a personalized gift. It’s so special to have something with your name on it or a special message. This year, several people of my holiday shopping list will be receiving a personalized gift from Personal Creations. Some of my favorites are below!

Personalized Glass Keepsake Box. I bought one of these for my mom and another for me. This box is simply stunning. You can have it etched with a single monogram or a special message. It’s the perfect place to drop your jewelry at the end of the day or to simply place out as decoration. It’s truly beautiful!

Trinket Box

Personalized Cuff Bracelet. I got this bracelet for my 12 year old niece. She is really into accessories right now and I think this bracelet will be perfect for her!

Persoanlized Cuff Bracelet

Personalized Rag Doll. OK, seriously what little girl wouldn’t love one of these dolls with her name on it?! I honestly could have gotten one of these for every little girl on my list and each would have been happy!

Personalized Rag Doll

Personalized Stuffies. These are a huge hit with kids right now – even Lucas who is 6 years old wants one! These unique stuffed animals have 7 top-secret pockets so kids can hide toys, keepsakes, pajamas and more. This specific cutie will be for my nephew, Enzo. I think he’s going to love it!

Christmas Decorating Tips for Your Fireplace Mantel #PFdecorates

Disclosure 1

We spent this past weekend recovering from a big Thanksgiving meal and the best part – decorating for the holidays. Our home is now decked out to the nines in Christmas decor. It looks beautiful! There’s something about Christmas decorations that turn a home into the most warm and inviting retreat, right?` I love the scent of a fresh Christmas tree, the festive decorations, and flicker of lights. The main attraction is the Christmas tree, of course – but if I was going to choose a very close second – it would have to be the fireplace mantel. It’s typically the focal point in a family or living room so it’s the first thing you see when you walk into the room. It should definitely receive some holiday cheer! So today I thought I’d share our Christmas mantel with you and share some tips!

Christmas Mantel Decorating Ideas-PIC3

Christmas Decorating Tips for Fireplace Mantels

  • Bring the outdoors in! There’s nothing like the scent of freshly cut evergreens – it is the essence of Christmas! We tucked branches of Fresh Decorative Greens and pinecones from ProFlowers on the mantel. These greens are beautiful and smell amazing! It comes with Noble Fir, Western Red Cedar, Princess Pine, Incense Cedar, Ponderosa pine cones and, Lodge Pole pine cones.

Christmas Mantel Decorating Ideas-9

  • Use several of the same type of item to make a bigger impact. We achieved this with the Porcelain Luminaria Village Set from Red Envelope. This village set comes with four houses and three trees and it makes a beautiful statement on the mantel! It comes with battery operated tea light candles – when turned on they cast a festive glow. Truly – this set is lovely!

Christmas Mantel Decorating Ideas-5

Christmas Mantel Decorating Ideas-7

  • Add interest by adding different heights and textures to your mantelscape. We did this with the two red tree decorations on the sides – these sort of act as a visual anchor. We also did this with the T’was the Night Before Christmas canvas above the mantel. It adds height and a touch of holiday whimsy. I mean, this is one of the most beloved Christmas stories ever!

Christmas Mantel Decorating Ideas-6

  • Hang something from your mantel! Whether it’s stockings (love these Otomi Stockings from Red Envelope) or a banner like we have (we purchased this banner from Red Envelope years ago) – it adds the perfect finishing touch!
