11 Tips on How To Photograph Your Kids

Disclosure 1

Whether it’s hearing that first cry, hearing them say “mama” for the first time, or feeling their first embrace, there’s nothing like experiencing those first moments with our children. Last week I (along with Latina Mom Bloggers) hosted a Pampers LIVE Tweet-Up at Hispanicize in Miami to celebrate those first moments and Swaddlers being available to size 6. Ten wonderful bloggers and moms joined us! It was a lovely event with lots of personalized sweet touches.

IMG_0808

IMG_0843

As the bloggers walked in, they were greeted by balloons that each had a picture of one of their little ones.

IMG_0900

And, each blogger left with a sweet surprise. A beautiful photo book filled with pictures of their babies.

IMG_0879

IMG_0828

IMG_0831

There were lots of smiles and even a few tears when these were opened up!

IMG_0853

As a Pampers Baby Board Ambassador, I also shared tips on how to photograph kids that I wanted to share with you today!

11 Tips on How To Photograph Your Kids

1

1. Jot down a list of photos you want to take. Think through any potential obstacles. This is helpful so that you don’t forget to take any important pictures (i.e. picture with grandma, etc).

2. Whether it’s through their clothing or how they act, let your child’s true personality shine.

7

3. Take the posed pictures first. This way you get all of those must-have pictures out of the way and can relax.

8

4. Take lots of candid pictures! These are the best kind of shots and really tell the story of the moment and who your kids really are. These are the pictures that will bring back memories when you look at them years down the road.

16

5. Zoom in to capture the small details. Their tiny toes and hand and facial features.

18

19

6. Zoom out to capture how tiny they are when compared to the rest of the world.

21

7. Use props (think flowers, toys, food – anything that will photograph well and your child will love) to keep kids entertained during a photo shoot. I get a little area ready with props and things I know that Amelia will love and only sit her in it when it’s completely ready.

24

8. Capture all of the moments – good, bad, and every day. Don’t just focus on the times when your child is happy. Snap shots of them crying or pouting. Take the camera to the grocery store or out to Sunday breakfast. You will want to remember these moments too!

30

9. Photograph the things around them. What do your kids love? Do they have a favorite book or stuffed animal?

33

10. Change your point of view. Snap pictures from below, the side and above – not just straight on – to get the most interesting shots.

38

11. Step out from behind the camera. Yes, we all have days that we feel frumpy or not great about ourselves, but you know what? Your kids don’t care. They love you and they (and you) deserve to have pictures of your lives together.

46

For the third year in a row, P&G showcased its trusted brands at Hispaniciz and hosted The Living Fabulosa lounge where various single brands including Olay, COVERGIRL, Pantene, Pampers, Gain and Crest, did a variety of fun events to help each Latina live fabulosa in her own way.

Pampers understands there is nothing more joyful or rewarding than the precious first-time moments shared by little ones and their families. In fact, as the #1 choice of hospitals in North America, Pampers Swaddlers are the first diaper worn by millions of babies, helping to comfort and protect little ones through their journey of firsts.

12 Days of Christmas Activities – Day 10 Give Back #12JollyDays

Disclosure 1

12DayOfChristmas_Day10

One of the most important lessons that we want our kids to learn throughout their lives is the importance of community and helping one another and giving back. While these are lessons we encourage year-round, we also make it a point to include several give-back activities during the holidays. Whether it’s running over a batch of cookies to share with our neighbors or picking out a few toys to give to a child in need or baking a batch of treats to deliver to our local fire station, we make sure that Lucas (and Amelia will too when she gets older) is fully involved in the process.

This year, we put together some treats for two of our local fire stations…

IMG_8462

IMG_8470

and then hand delivered the treats right after school.

1IMG_0596

It was a great experience for all of us and a wonderful way to show our gratitude to the men and women who protect us every day. The firefighters were awesome – they gave us a tour of the station and invited Lucas up on the firetruck and let him try their uniform on. He was so excited!

Make some time to give back in some way this holiday season. Your family could sponsor a family in need, buy a few toys for a child-in-need, volunteer at a food bank or drive, deliver treats to your local fire station, write letters to active or wounded military men and women.

12 Days of Christmas Activities – Day 9 Family Game Night #12JollyDays

Disclosure 1

12DayOfChristmas_Day9

One of the easiest ways to connect as a family is to plan a game night. We love doing this during the holiday season when the winter nights are longer and we just want to be snuggled up inside. It’s also a great activity to do during the week right after dinner. This year, we surprised Lucas by including game night as one of our daily advent activities AND pulled out a bunch of brand new board games we knew he would love!

IMG_6740

IMG_8443

We set aside a few hours with no phones or TV and it was ON!

And, of course – we enjoyed some treats!

IMG_8459

IMG_8452

Below are a few tips to have a successful family game night.

  • Make it special by setting out a few treats and hot cocoa
  • Have music playing in the background
  • Put away all distractions, including smartphones, iPads, etc. This should be time that everyone focuses on each other.
  • Get the kids involved by letting them take turns choosing the games you all play
  • Be open minded about the games you play! Board games, video games, card games, charades – all are fun!

12 Days of Christmas Activities – Day 8 Cookies for Santa #12JollyDays

Disclosure 1

12DayOfChristmas_Day8

The tradition of leaving cookies for Santa is one of our favorites. Every year, we pick a day close to Christmas Eve (usually 1-2 days before) and bake a few different types of cookies and treats. We don’t worry about whether the cookies are perfect or misshapen. It’s just about having fun and being together. I like to choose easy recipes that Lucas can mostly do himself.

IMG_7923

Fun and cute like the treats below!

IMG_8354

On Christmas Eve, we head to my parents for their annual party and when we get home Lucas puts out a plate of cookies and glass of milk for Santa…

He also likes to leave Santa a note.

“I love you. Your the best. Merry Christmas.” – Lucas

One of our families favorite things to do is watch movies. Each year we look forward to watching Christmas movies, so as soon as November hits, we start pulling out our holiday collection. Each week we pick a night (and sometimes more than one) to watch a favorite movie from our collection, or a maybe a new one we haven’t seen yet. When the night rolls around we cuddle up on the couch with a couple of warm blankets, a few yummy treats, a roaring fire, and we settle in for the show.
