12 Days of Christmas Activities – Day 8 Cookies for Santa #12JollyDays

Disclosure 1

12DayOfChristmas_Day8

The tradition of leaving cookies for Santa is one of our favorites. Every year, we pick a day close to Christmas Eve (usually 1-2 days before) and bake a few different types of cookies and treats. We don’t worry about whether the cookies are perfect or misshapen. It’s just about having fun and being together. I like to choose easy recipes that Lucas can mostly do himself.

Fun and cute like the treats below!

On Christmas Eve, we head to my parents for their annual party and when we get home Lucas puts out a plate of cookies and glass of milk for Santa…

IMG_8290

He also likes to leave Santa a note.

“I love you. Your the best. Merry Christmas.” – Lucas

and, carrots for the reindeer of course!

From baking and decorating the cookies to leaving the cookies out for Santa on Christmas Eve, this is such a fun activity to do as a family.

12 Days of Christmas Activities – Day 7 Family Movie Night & Treats #12JollyDays

Disclosure 1

12DayOfChristmas_Day7

One of our families favorite things to do is watch movies. Each year we look forward to watching Christmas movies, so as soon as November hits, we start pulling out our holiday collection. Each week we pick a night (and sometimes more than one) to watch a favorite movie from our collection, or a maybe a new one we haven’t seen yet. When the night rolls around we cuddle up on the couch with a couple of warm blankets, a few yummy treats, a roaring fire, and we settle in for the show.

Movie Night Selfie

It’s such a simple but fun activity to enjoy together during the holidays (or anytime).

IMG_7920

We like to keep treats simple…popcorn is always a must, of course! And an ice cold beverage. Nothing much beats popcorn and a soda.

During the holidays, it’s fun to take every day moments and make them a little more special. One thing we like to do is have dinner in our family room right by the fireplace and Christmas tree. It’s cozy and festive and we get to enjoy the tree and each other!

1IMG_7627

To make it feel extra special, I set our coffee table with a tablecloth, chargers, and cloth napkins.

IMG_7840

I also add special touches with cute personalized bowls…

festive holiday platters and personalized drink glasses…

The menu is typically something like chili with all the fixings or a comforting bowl of soup…

IMG_7807

and of course, we always have Christmas carols playing in the background. Dinner by the fireplace and Christmas tree is the perfect holiday family activity to do during the week especially. It’s a wonderful way to make the every day dinner…extraordinary.

12 Days of Christmas Activities – Day 5 Ornament Exchange #12JollyDays

Disclosure 1

12DayOfChristmas_Day5

Our Christmas tree is filled with ornaments that represent us. Our family. Our memories. Throughout the year, we collect new ornaments to add to the tree. We buy an ornament at every travel destination. We have ornaments from our trips to Ocean City, Disney World, Disney Land, Chattanooga, and more. Our tree has an ornament marking each year that Mike and I have been married. There’s an ornament for each child’s first Christmas. We have ornaments from when we were kids. Ornaments made by us as a family or by Lucas at school. It’s a beautiful sight to see and it always brings up memories while we trim the tree. We talk about the places we’ve been or remember Lucas’ first Christmas or share stories of our own childhood.

IMG_6472

Each Christmas, we like to give each other special ornaments that mark a milestone or hobby. This year, we have several new ornaments. For Lucas – the gamer and baseball ornaments. Two of his obsessions.

IMG_7481

IMG_7491

For Amelia – the sock monkey and Elmo ornaments. She is obsessed with Elmo lately!

IMG_52509

IMG_7523

For Mike – the beer and griller ornament. Mike loves to brew his own craft beers and he can regularly be found at the grill or smoker making a tasty dinner for us.

IMG_7535

IMG_7530

For Aries (our dog) – a beautiful chocolate lab ornament.

IMG_7520

For Family – a new “The Jollys” ornament marking each member of the family.

IMG_7515

For Me – the photographer and smartphone ornaments. These couldn’t be more perfect, right?!

IMG_7540

Exchanging ornaments is a special tradition that every family can do during the holiday season and will create lasting memories. You could host an ornament exchange party with friends or family, make homemade ornaments with the kids, or if you have an “elf” friend he or she can surprise everyone with a new ornament (our Elf Sherman does this every year, actually).

12 Days of Christmas Activities – Day 4 Indoor Snowball Fight #12JollyDays

Disclosure 1

12DayOfChristmas_Day4

Here in HOTlanta, we don’t get a lot of snow. MAYBE one time per year. If we’re lucky. But there’s no reason that we shouldn’t be able to join in on all of the fun snowball fights to be had, right? That’s why we like to have our own INDOOR snowball fights. We surprised the kids with these indoor snowball buckets and declared a snowball fight war.

IMG_6839

Let’s just say it was fun.

untitled folder 2

A lot of fun.

Honestly, my friends up north could also benefit from an indoor snowball fight. You get all the fun without the bitter cold and mess. It’s a win, win!

12 Days of Christmas Activities – Day 3 New PJs for the Family #12JollyDays

Disclosure 1

12DayOfChristmas_Day3

Can I just open one present, mommy? These are words heard around the world in the days leading up to Christmas. I know that I begged my parents. My brothers (all four of them) begged our parents. My husband begged his parents. My kiddos plead with us now. The solution? Give them one gift to unwrap before Christmas morning.

IMG_6822

The gift? New Christmas pajamas for the whole family. I know that a lot of families do this one, but there’s a good reason why. It’s a fun and simple tradition that everyone looks forward to every year.

IMG_6976

We like them to match or coordinate, of course! That way we are ready for pictures on Christmas morning.

IMG_6959

Personalization is always such a special touch. Everyone loves to have their name on their pjs!

Christmas Pajamas Tradition Ideas

1. As the kids get older, draw names to determine who each person will buy pajamas for. The goal? Buy the silliest pajamas you can find!

2. Open your new pajamas and hop in the car and drive around town to look at Christmas light displays.

3. Open your new pajamas and read a book. We usually cuddle up in bed and read the classic ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas.

4. Give pajamas and a family board game. Spend Christmas Eve in your new jammies playing a board game.

5. Give pajamas and a family movie. Spend Christmas Eve in your new jammies watching a family movie.

Radio Control Heli Beast Giveaway

Disclosure2

Lucas loves all things RC and was super excited when we received the Heli Beast from Silverlit to test out. It’s basically a remote control helicopter that walks and really flies. The boys (Lucas and Mike) had a lot of fun testing it out as you can see from the video below!

The one area that they had trouble with was the landing. As you can see in the video that part did not go as smoothly. This could be an issue with the Heli Beast or it could be a user issue LOL. We haven’t quite figured that out yet, but they are having lots of fun practicing! Plus, even though it’s gone through some rough landings – our Heli Beast is still going strong so it’s definitely a durable toy. One thing that I love is that it comes with a charger so you don’t go through a ton of batteries.

About the Heli Beast from Silverlit:

Includes beast gear for realistic walking action. Launch your Heli with the touch of a button on the remote. Special Propeller system with auto stabilization technology. Precision speed control for a smooth flying experience. Easy to recharge through transmitter. $39.99. Available at Hammacher now and Kohls.com in the fall.

They are the rockin’ musicians also known as…The Beatrix Girls.

The Beatrix Girls are an accomplished pop band with real music that girls are sure to adore. Each member of the band sings, plays a different instrument and even writes the songs.

They’ve achieved the pop-star success that young girls dream of – and they’ve done it through talent, tenacity and old-fashioned hard work. Best of all, none of that success has gone to their heads. They’re young, they’re real and they’re spunky.

I was recently sent Brayden and Chantal to check out and my first thought was that the dolls are gorgeous. They have beautiful eyes and facial features and their hair is AMAZING – so flowing and soft. Little girls will love to style them and change out their outfits! I think it’s really cool that there is real music with a positive message that young girls can enjoy. These are a lot of fun! I gave the dolls to two of my nieces and they were very happy girls!

(VIDEO) Little Scholar Tablet for Kids Review & #Giveaway

I swear babies come out of the womb knowing how to use smartphones and tablets these days. Amelia has already shown interest in our iPhones and is perfectly adept at “swiping” and going through apps. She is 18 months old. Totally blows me away. The thing is that if she is going to use a smartphone or a tablet of any kind, it needs to be educational and it needs to be appropriate content. This is true for both her and Lucas (7 years old). I don’t want to worry about her viewing inappropriate videos or content.

IMG_5062

That’s why I love the new Little Scholar Tablet for kids – it literally comes LOADED with 150+ apps, videos, music, books, and more…all appropriate and ready for your little ones right out of the box. You don’t have to spend hours setting it up and you don’t have to constantly worry that your kids will stumble onto something they shouldn’t be watching and you don’t even need an internet connection to use. However, this is a fully functional tablet so you can add apps if you want to and of course – connect to the internet too.

Watch the video below to hear about the features we love!

About the Little Scholar Tablet:

Little Scholar tablet from SchoolZone (leading educational kids publisher) is jam packed with 150 educational apps(including videos, songs and e-books), valued at nearly $400 worth of FREE content. Little Scholar provides its users with lessons based on all of the “core curriculum” subjects for preschoolers, kindergartners, and first graders, including math, reading, spelling, logic, creativity, and geography. Halloween Trick-or-Treating Safety Tips

  • Make sure that your child can be seen! Plan costumes that are bright and reflective and make sure that treat bags and accessories also have reflectors.
  • Make sure that your child can see in the dark! Have your child carry a flashlight like the Rayovac Glow in the Dark Flashlight, which allows kids to use as a light when turned on and also offers a constant glow so child is visible to others.
  • Only visit homes and neighborhoods that are well-lit
  • Never, ever enter a home or a car to get candy
  • Small children should always be accompanied by an adult
  • Develop a trick-or-treating route for older kids to use and set a time for them to check-in with you and to return home.
  • Make sure children know who to call and what to do if they have an emergency or become lost.
  • Tell kids to wait until candy has been inspected by an adult before eating
  • Review rules and safety plan with kids before trick-or-treating
