Easy and Cute! Cupcakes Perfect for Spring {Tutorial}

(repost from 2012) I made the cutest cupcakes for Easter a few weeks ago and I’ve been dying to share them with you. They are simple chocolate cupcakes decorated with a carrot on top. These are also perfect for any Spring party or as a fun way to celebrate the arrival of Spring with kids. Aren’t they adorable?! Believe it or not, they are also super simple to make!

To start, you will need to bake chocolate cupcakes and frost them with chocolate frosting…

Once your cupcakes are frosted, roll them in crushed chocolate cookie crumbs. I used chocolate graham crackers.

It will look like this…

See, it looks like dirt. Cute, right?

Then, the magic begins. The secret is Starbursts.

Unwrap an orange Starburst and roll it through your fingertips until it is pliable…

Then, mold it into a carrot shape…

Using a sharp knife, make indentations into the carrot simulating the ridges of a carrot…

Rub cinnamon all over the carrot so it looks like it has been plucked right from the garden…

Finally, open up a green Starburst and cut it into little pieces. Mold each little piece into the carrot stems…

Photobucket

Set the carrot on top of the cupcake and place the stem pieces behind the carrot top using a tiny bit of frosting or you can prick holes into the top of the carrot and insert the stem pieces into the holes…

The idea for these cupcakes came from a super cute book Mike bought for me last Christmas called Hello, Cupcake. Enjoy!
