Million Dollar Quartet – A Must See!

One of my favorite singers is Johnny Cash, and I just love the stories of some of the original rock-n-rollers. So when Mike and I had the chance to check out the musical Million Dollar Quartet, we were ecstatic.

Million Dollar Quartet is the true story of one of the greatest jam sessions in history. Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins, Elvis Presley, and Johnny Cash all had an impromptu meeting as Sun Records in Memphis, Tennessee back on Dec 4, 1956. The story goes that all four singers got their start at Sun Records under producer Sam Phillips. Elvis was now with another recording company but was missing working with Sam, Carl Perkins was working with Sam to get his career back on track, Jerry Lee was a new up and comer trying to get hooked on with Sun Records, and Johnny Cash was on his way out to a bigger company. The four ended up at Sun Records at the same time and proceeded to talk, laugh, and rock-n-roll.

their own signing, and they sounded I-N-C-R-E-D-I-B-L-E! The actor playing Jerry Lee Lewis was amazing to watch as he went crazy on the piano again and again. The actor who played Sam Phillips acted as the narrator and took us backward in time so we could see how these great icons of music got their start at Sun. At the very end of the show the four actors put on a show and sang four encore songs. Everyone was clapping and on their feet. It was almost like being at one of the concerts that happened so long ago. What a time in history and music!

Million Dollar Quartet is a you do not want to miss!
